DVR works on 64 bit Windows only?

I thought in the past the DVR software/install worked on Windows 7 32 bit but I don’t see a download for any 32 bit systems.

We have only ever supported 64-but Windows. What kind of CPU is in your windows machine?

It’s a quad-core Q6600 machine running Windows 7 Pro 32 bit.

I believe what you’re saying but when I tried Channels previously about 8 mos ago I could swear I setup the DVR engine on this machine, I even recall deleted the directory when I cancelled the product purchase due to stuttering(which appears to be solved so that’s good!).

I’d really rather not have to reload a 64 bit OS on the recording machine, which works just fine with SiliconDust’s recording engine. I really wanted to try Channels again as SD is taking forever with their Apple TV app and I’ve gotten tired of waiting.

But if 64 bit is needed then I guess I’ll have to re-think going with Channels.

I use that 32 bit Win7 machine as it’s the only one that I leave on as it’s in a non-used room, all other computers are turned off at night and would miss late night recordings.

I can take a look to see if our software builds on 32-bit Windows. If it does we can release a build, but if not then it is unlikely we’ll invest time into making it work as most people have moved onto 64-bit Windows which has a lot of advantages.

I managed to build 32-bit versions of everything without too much trouble. I don’t have a 32-bit windows install to test with however. If you want to try it out, here’s the 32-bit version of the installer:

https://channels-dvr.s3.amazonaws.com/SetupChannelsDVR32.exe

That’s awesome! I’ll give it a try and report back.

Thanks!

Okay, a couple of problems.

First, it tried to load a Chrome webpage at 127.0.0.1:8089 “site can’t be reached”

and when I rebooted the computer i got a box that said

“The Procedure entry point ShutdownBlockReasonCreate@8 could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll”

I take it LAN storage is not available? I just loaded the DVR software onto my Win 10 machine and it’s only allowing me the option to save recordings on that same machine.

You need to select a local directory during the initial setup and then you can change it to another drive later.

That’s the weird part, none of that happened, it just suddenly tried to open up a webpage, I never got any sort of install procedure.

I’ll try it again.

When I doubleclick the installer file it just opens up a dialog box that says Start DVR Service and Remove DRV service. When I click Start nothing seems to happen.

The setup is completed via the DVR’s web interface. What does it show in the web browser?

Site can’t be reached, refused to connect.

This is on Windows 10 correct?

Check the Task Manager to see if Channels DVR is running.

Then check the file c:\programdata\channelsdvr\data\channels-dvr.log to see if it shows any error message.

Also on Windows 10 you should be using the regular installer not the special 32-bit I gave you above.

I did get it running on the Win10, maybe that’s interfering with it? Though I didn’t try on the Win10 machine until after I hit the roadblock on the Win7 machine.

Yes, the Win10 install I just did appears to working just fine, it’s the Win7 install that seem to have some problems and that’s the install that gives me the can’t be reached messege.

Correct installers used in both cases, 32 on the Win7 and the regular installer on the Win10

Okay I understand. The 32-bit build is broken due to the “prodcedure entry point” error you posted earlier which is causing it to crash instantly. I’m researching how to fix it.

I recommend you uninstall and delete the installer. I will give you a new installer once I fix that error.

Will do, and I reply appreciate the effort you’re putting into this!

Okay go ahead and download the new installer from the same URL above and see if it makes any difference.

That did it! It appears to be working correctly now. I set some recordings and will post back with the results later.

Thanks a lot for the special build as it saves me the hassle of updating a machine to 64 bit and/or having to buy a standalone NAS. Much appreciated!
