Many automated processes have the capability to send emails based on certain conditions. For example: Every morning I have an email from my Acronis server about backups completing successfully.

I would like to see a similar feature in the ChannelsDVR server. It can be used to send warning about certain conditions:

  • Low disk space
  • Lost access to TVE channel
  • Recording failing
  • Failed to load guide data
  • etc.

I find it extremely useful. I do not have to manually check the status of my backups (and other automated tasks). A quick glance at the emails (or lack of them) lets me know what happened.

One time, I failed to manage my disk space and it got full. Missed some new recordings.
My fault, of course, but I could use a reminder when the disk space is low.

Email alerts are a great idea.

Email alerts are very useful. Sometimes i go days without looking at WebUI.

I have been using email notifications in conjunction with Prowl for iPhone/iPad alerts for many server services for ages. I use Prowl because I have pretty much grown to unintentionally ignore my e-mail notifications (they make the beep but I never hear it any more), but when I get a Prowl alert I know it is something I want to pay attention to.
