EPG alternatives

It appears were having some real problems with the guide data recently.

Are there any other options that we can get the developers working on to either use or supplement to get accurate EPG?

I was thinking that SageTV (Schedules Direct) was ultimately using the same exact guide data as Channels DVR, but apparently that isn't the case. Screenshots taken 3 minutes ago.

What the hey is going on here?

As mentioned in your other thread, Gracenote is what's going on.
For whatever reason, they have the wrong data and they are feeding it to Channels.

The only thing you can do is hope that the Gracenote EPG gets updated before Saturday.
Or maybe try to contact the TV station and ask them why Gracenote has the wrong data. Maybe they can get it fixed. :man_shrugging:

The gracenote data was updated earlier today which is why Schedules Direct is correct now.

This is expected behavior. By the time Saturday rolls around, the guide is updated and propagated and your season passes will kick in.

Q: Did you double check the Channel Call Sign. Possible when assigning EPG that you selected a different citys NBC by accident

If not its a Gracenotes problem and CDVR devs have no control over that.

I'm sorry. I was unable to respond in the other thread where Maddox erroneously claimed that the local affiliate was the problem, because he closed the thread.

There you go. That will make a happy @Kryptonyte !

Better late then never right!

Back to the original question. Are there other alternatives [other than, or in addition to] Gracenote that the developers could build into the software to try and resolve this EPG problem?

Are you having more epg problems than this one preseason game? I’ve been using channels for years with no Gracenote epg issues. I think you may be blowing this out of proportion. These preseason game broadcasting rights are bought and sold like crack on the street which sometimes leads to slow/late updates to Gracenote and schedules direct. Setup a team pass and a you won’t have any problems.

Probably.

You mentioned Schedules Direct but it doesn't seem that it can be used at a large scale by a company, if I understand this statement from their membership page:

  • Only available to natural persons (no corporations).

I'm sure the developers weighed the pros and cons when they were deciding which EPG provider to go with. There must be a good reason why they picked Gracenote.

Schedules Direct is no big deal it uses the Same guide data (Gracenote) as Channels DVR ... waiting a few days until Channels Guide updates is really no big deal. If the pass is setup it will record.... no need to panic.

This is what I know. I contacted TMJ4 about this and they submitted data over 2 weeks ago and it apparently hasn't been updated on Gracenote - so it seems that it's not "like crack" as you suggest. I then checked my SageTV server EPG and it reported correctly when Channels DVR was not capable of that.

I don't control who Channels DVR uses for the EPG data, so when I contacted them I was surprised to learn that they would require me to contact someone for them. On the other hand, with the failure of TVE services, it does appear that Channels DVR developers have decided to depend on their users to solve their problems.

As noted earlier, yesterday the data in Gracenote was wrong. Today the data is correct. It got fixed when you emailed them and told them it was wrong.

If you had checked SageTV yesterday it would have been wrong there as well. If you update your Channels DVR guide data now, it will be correct in Channels as well.

Channels DVR updates guide data every morning, so even if you did nothing the game would appear in the listings tomorrow morning and would record correctly on Saturday.

We are not aware of any other guide providers which are as good as Gracenote. Nor do we have any plans to integrate new providers.

We offer an XMLTV EPG feature in the software, so if you want to create or source your own data in XMLTV format you can use that.
