EPG options and channels missing

I started a DVR public beta subscription over the weekend (Apple TV v2.1.33 with HDHomeRun Connect in the UK).

I’ve noticed two issues:

  1. The EPG options for Silicon Dust and Gracenote are no longer available - only “EPG from DVB”. If I switch to “EPG from DVB”, there is no way to restore one of the other EPGs. The only way I could do this was to remove and reinstall the app.

  2. There is no way to reinstate previously hidden channels - the settings in the app now only lists channels I have marked as favourites (filled heart icon) or to display in the guide (heart outline icon). All the channels I previously set not to display have disappeared from the list, leaving just 26. I have tried rescanning for channels. This seems to be working and finds 176 channels during the scan, but as the scan completes, it drops back down to 26. I have noticed the same behaviour with the iOS app (v1.4.5).

I’m assuming the switch to the DVR beta was the cause of these?

If you’re using the DVR, then all guide data comes from the DVR. The DVB option is not supposed to appear either. DVR features in the app require the DVR guide data to be used.

This is unexpected. Please check the web interface for your HDHR to ensure you did not hide the channels there.

That makes perfect sense, it’s kind of obvious now you say it that the DVR needs to work as a master, and determines the channels and listings available to the client applications.

But given that, there may still be a couple of (very) minor anomalies.

There is a slight mismatch in the channel count in my case. The AppleTV and iOS devices are showing 26 channels, whereas the web interface (under Guide > All Channels) is showing 24. For some reason, with UK Freeview, channels 200 (BBC Red Button) and 600 (BBC RB 1) do not appear in the DVR web interface guide when not hidden or marked as favourite, but do appear correctly in the client apps.

As for the EPG guide, having the ‘EPG for DVB’ option does feel redundant. I checked this, which resulted in all program thumbnails disappearing (as expected), but then could not uncheck it and return to the DVB EPG without deleting and reinstalling the app.

The “EPG from DVB” option has been removed for the next build.

On the DVR web Settings tab, under your HDHR, you can click the pencil icon next to your DVR guide setting to see if the missing channels are mapped to guide data. Probably the guide data is missing, which would explain why they don’t show up.

Also FYI, the iOS app does not talk to the DVR engine yet.

According to https://www.freeview.co.uk/why-freeview/channels/bbc-red-button-2 BBC RB 1 is on channel 601 not 600. Can you confirm?

Sorry, you’re right. 600 is “BBC RB 0”.

601 is “BBC RB 1” (which does have guide data).
