Error with streamlink

So I tried creating and importing a streamlink for the first time today, but I'm seeing the following errors in the DVR log:

2025/11/08 09:57:26.458480 [SCN] Reprocessing metadata for TV episode #14413 The Repair Shop/Season 1/S01E01.strmlnk: File size changed 43 -> 45
2025/11/08 09:57:26.610659 [DVR] Generating fingerprint for file-14413: The Repair Shop/Season 1/S01E01.strmlnk
2025/11/08 09:57:26.639341 [ERR] Generating fingerprint failed for file-14413: probe file: /Volumes/EASYSTORE_8TB/FileShare/StreamLinks/TV/The Repair Shop/Season 1/S01E01.strmlnk: exit status 1

The contents of the strmlnk file look like this:

h-t-t-p-s://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsdyFVmp9lE

(I inserted dashes to keep the forum GUI from rendering the link)

The episode is showing up in my Channels client (Apple TV), and when I click the watch button it launches the YouTube app, and it seems like it's trying to bring up the video, bit I get error. I'm able to back out of YouTube and get back to the Channels app.

Have I done something wrong with my stream link? Or is this a known limitation with YouTube videos?

I have discovered that if I play the episode from the DVR web interface, it brings up the video in a new browser tab and plays just fine. So must be an Apple TV thing?

I’ve also discovered that it plays fine using the channels app on my iPhone. So definitely an Apple TV thing. Bummer, since the atv is my preferred viewing experience. Also,the error in the log doesn’t seem related to my playback issues. So still wondering what the error in the log is all about?

The tvOS version of YouTube probably uses a different format. You’d have to find that out, and then it would open the app correctly.

All Channels does is open the URLs, and the system takes care of the rest.

These errors are fixed in the latest DVR pre-release.

I tried again from my Apple TV client and it worked this time. It jumped over to the YouTube app and started playing full screen right away. didn’t change anything.

So I guess the problem was with YouTube and not channels. Consider this issue resolved.
