ESPN TVE Dropped Connection

Is there some way to handle a lost connection better for TVE sources? I have a "backend" DVR and a "frontend" DVR so that I can modify channel numbers. If the backend DVR drops connection to a TVE source (experiencing this with ESPN lately) it will keep providing that lost connection to the frontend DVR.

Clients connected to the frontend DVR will display tuner error on screen with no way of recovering the connection other than restarting the backend DVR. Looking through the logs it seems like the backend DVR closes the connection after a 2min timeout, but never attempts to restart the connection leaving the frontend DVR with no source.
