I have passes for football games but when a show is scheduled with a generic TBD for the teams it's never updated when the actual teams are assigned. For example the college playoff game tomorrow night, NFL wildcard games etc. So I end up deleting the scheduled recording and rescheduling to get the updated title.
This is a feature that every other DVR that I've seen has, is it a bug? The recording title should always reflect the current guide data.
Channels does only 1 Guide update and that is at around 9:00am ... If Gracenote updates the guide data after that it will not be reflected in Channels Guide.
I understand, the problem is that a scheduled recording never gets updated.
You can see this yourself - schedule a recording today for one of the NFL wild card games next weekend. The recording will show "Wild Card: Teams TBA" for the teams even after the teams have been assigned to the game, and when it records it will still say TBA. The only way to have a recording with the correct names after the guide updates is to cancel the scheduled recording and reschedule it, which is dumb.
Depends on how you schedule it.
If done manually (like selecting record from the guide) it will never update from the guide data.
If done with a pass, it will update.
Have you tried pressing refresh metadata on the recording?
No, but I will and shouldn't have to. This is really a bug as far as I'm concerned, I don't want to have to go into the web page to fix these - they should auto update no matter how they're scheduled.
It does not do it with a pass. I have a PGA tour pass and the title is incorrect for this weekend's Sentry tournament recordings on Golf channel (the event title was changed from Sentry tournament of champions to The Sentry). It does not match what's currently in the guide in other words.

Yes, it's incorrect everywhere. I also don't see the refresh metadata option for individual recordings.
It's only for recordings that have completed, not for scheduled recordings.

Okay, I pulled my golf recording out of the trash from yesterday and did a refresh metadata on it, did not correct the event title to The Sentry. Makes sense because the guide data is gone, but now there's no way to fix these if you don't catch them in advance.
I know that the guide had the correct data, I saw it yesterday but didn't bother with these because the event title on them is not important to me. But it is important for scheduled games where the opponents are not known in advance.
Refreshing Metadata refreshes directly from Gracenote, not what’s in your current guide data (which was TBD anyways so that wouldn’t do anything).
If it didn’t work, then Gracenote doesn’t have the updated info either.
Regardless of the golf pass issue, the TBD thing needs to be fixed. Gracenote does have the correct data for these games but channels is not picking it up when the scheduler runs.
Just as an FYI, Channels DVR Server does a morning update specifically for events that haven’t been matched up yet, for example NCAA Basketball Tournament games, which, if Gracenote has the data, it will resolve.
I’m not sure why a scheduled gold tournament would not have its title set anyways, that doesn’t really fall into this normal category. This is usually for tournament events or late night talk shows that don’t always update their metadata with Gracenote till the day of the airing.
Well like I said do a manual recording of a wild card game and see if it refreshes tomorrow or Tuesday. I'll check mine as well, but I know that I had to re-record the college playoff final tomorrow night because it never got updated. And I've seen it before.
It would get update when it recorded. It’s not updated because it captures the airing data when you told it to manually record, so it has something to show you.
We can look at updating these manually scheduled records, but it’s a slightly edge case and again, it would have the correct info once the Airing is recorded, as long as Gracenote has update it.
I'm not following how having the correct current data in the schedule (i.e. matching the guide) is an edge case but okay. You're already running a refresh everyday, so how is it a problem to keep the schedule up to date? And like I said it's all recordings, not just manual ones.
And I'm not sure if it's true that these get fixed at recording time. If I look at the schedule for The Sentry final round today on Golf channel, the guide says that the event title is The Sentry. But my scheduled recording (from a pass) still says it's Sentry tournament of champions and when it records channels will not change that. It didn't yesterday and I know the guide data was correct but the recording was wrong.
The event title is never getting updated.
