Is there only one fast forward speed or if not how do a toggle a faster version like 2x, 4x, etc? I noticed on my shield TV the rewind clips along much faster than on the Apple TV - is there a difference with how ff/rw is handled between the two players? Looking for a way to jump say an hour or so into a show quickly.
No, there’s just one speed.
Consider using skip rather than the linear FF function. It’s much faster to get where you want.
I know on the Apple TV you can use the touchpad on the remote to quickly scrub along the timeline. Not sure if the Shield has something equivalent.
Ah I see, I’m just using a universal remote for the Apple TV. It’s interesting that the FF/RW moves faster on the Shield vs ATV - maybe because they don’t have a touchpad?

Yeah I also use a harmony remote with my Apple TV. Not being able to “scrub” is one of the big limitations. Fortunately I always have my phone handy and the remote function allows you to do it quickly right from control center. So in the rare cases I need to move quickly through the timeline I can do it that way in just a few seconds.

How would you recommend fast-forwarding through a long recording? Case in point... I brought up a 2 hour recording and wanted jump to the beginning of the 2nd hour. I wound up have to hit the forward button 120 times to skip ahead in 30 second increments. What am I missing?
BTW - My playback client is the Amazon Firestick 4K.
On Android (and specifically, the Fire TV), if you press-and-hold the FFWD or RIGHT button it will quickly scrub on the progress bar into the recording. (Note, the picture displayed will not change, only the position on the progress bar.)
Same story with the Shield re: fast scrubbing. So does the Apple TV app not work this way - the only way to go fast is to use the Apple TV remote and swipe forwards on the trackpad?
Just a FF hold doesn’t go faster there. It would be nice to have the Apple TV behave the same way (continued holding of FF further speeds things up) and would be a more consistent user experience across players.
Yes currently you have to use the trackpad on the Apple TV remote for fast scrubbing. Alternatively you can use your phone (which is what I do). Not sure if there are limitations with the Apple TV that prevent doing what you are asking for, but it would be nice.
