Custom categories would provide a reasonable solution for something I've been thinking about lately.

My feeds are category based, but I've been thinking I would like to segregate the PBS channels into their own feed. The only way I can think of to do this would involve going to each of my existing feeds and checking all of the sources except PBS. (My fingers are getting tired just thinking about that.) Then create a new feed with only PBS selected as a source.

But if I could create a PBS custom category, all I would need to do is set the category on each of the channels and then create a new feed for just that category. No need to touch my existing feeds.

If the past is any indication, KineticMan will come up with a more elegant way to achieve this.

you guys know i'm a sucker for peer pressure.... let me think about it. the reason i had pause from doing it a long time ago was I had so filters/startup stuff that relied on categories. i didnt want to break anything.

btw, your current ask - couldn't you filter on admin/channels by source PBS, then use the "feed" filter? then u can use click the little "folder" icon on far right and exclude the channels from feeds they are in? kinda hacky i suppose.

That certainly seems lower maintenance than the approach of excluding the PBS source from my existing feeds.

I found an old firestick and connected it to my PC via HDMI dongle, which I could view via OBS. I first tried VLC but it was very fuzzy for some reason. Anyway, I'm going to have to connect it to a real TV to actually install Kodi on it. I managed to download Kodi, but the interface is so slow and clunky, and it wouldn't install Kodi until I unstalled something else to make space. But the weird interface I was using wouldn't show me a place to uninstall anything. Hopefully this will just be a setup issue, not an ongoing one. However, one thing that worries me is that although it had been connected just a short time (like maybe an hour), the HDMI dongle got terribly hot. Do you get that with the device you use? Maybe my dongle is under-powered or something.

curious if this helped or didnt do anything? I still have it as exerimental setting. if it was a waste of time, I could just remove or leave on as default and hide the UX

Just installed the latest (?) version (v5.0.5) to start with Pluto TV but I don't see it in the list of available sources!

I haven't experimented with it just yet.. I think it'll be a relatively easy switch to throw though. Maybe I could add an experimental feed to next version so you guys can play with it.

I think we shouldn't make it the default output UNTIL cdvr gets it out of pre-release.

do you have Pluto enabled and scraped in admin/sources page?

You're in the wrong screen. Across the top is the sources tab, you'll need to go into it to configure and enable. Once enabled, click the scrape button.

Ah, I see. It's a fresh install, I haven't done anything with sources.

So it's just a case of RTFM. :laughing:

all good - I automatically enable some sources on install (the ones that don't need creds). the rest are premium/drm gated and left for the intrepid users.

I think I would prefer a global switch on the Settings page to move the Gracenote channels into the Standard m3u over creating a new URI for the combined m3u.

Didn't try it since the setting is global and affects every feed.

Maybe @fashioncents or @jtanderson tried it.

I completely forgot that one of my posts essentially triggered the addition of this option. I haven't been recording any movies lately. My last attempts resulted in completely useless video files. I'll look into giving it a try.

One of them was Bride of Frankenstein / Universal Horror / Pluto. I'll make that one of my tests. It's scheduled for early Sunday morning.

Edit:

Bride of Frankenstein recorded overnight. CDVR thinks it is 26h13m long. Every attempt I have made to fix it using ffmpeg resulted in an mkv that shows as 9h23m long. But I did a quick scan using VLC, and it looks like the actual recording may be OK. I'm going to play around with it some more later.

But my conclusion is that, at least in this case, the rewrite option didn't help.
