FastChannels - FAST Channels aggregator/manager

This project looks interesting, and they’ve got like 25 channels… Not sure how easy it would be to add add as a feed… Check it out https://www.reddit.com/r/cordcutters/s/kox6GVHeOp

that looks cool.

quick glance though - it looks like it's just VOD files and their player just jumps to a certain time to match the guide. Think like "Virtual Channels" on CDVR. It unfortunately wouldn't play as a HLS/MPEG channel.

Thanks for taking a look at it!

FastChannels 5.6.0 — What's New

:vhs: Bring your own playlists

You can now add your own M3U playlist, with its XMLTV guide, as a source. Its channels show up in your feeds alongside everything else, and channel numbers, categories, Gracenote IDs and feed filters all work like they do for built-in sources.

  • Sources → Custom Sources → + Add Playlist: paste the playlist (and guide) URL, click Check playlist to preview the channels and groups, untick what you don't want, and add it.
  • Channels without guide data get placeholder blocks (or none, your choice).
  • Each group can decide what happens when channels drop out of the playlist: disable them after a few misses, or treat them as one-off events.

Streams that need special headers may not play yet, and there's no Stream Audit for playlists, since FastChannels never connects to them itself. Full guide: docs/custom-playlists.md.

:stadium: ESPN+ events as channels

The ESPN source can now add ESPN+, ACC Extra and SEC Plus events as temporary channels, with guide data, for everything in the next 48 hours.

  • Pick all sports, or just the sports and leagues you want. The card shows how many events your picks match.
  • Event channels clean up after themselves: they disappear two hours after the scheduled end (room for overtime) and are deleted a day later.
  • Channels, Guide and Feeds all have an Events filter, so a separate "Events" feed is easy.

:tv: One playlist per feed for Channels DVR (Beta)

Channels DVR 2026.08.25+ can take XMLTV and Gracenote channels in one source. Set a feed's Guide Mode to Mixed and it becomes a single DVR source instead of two. Channel numbers don't change.

Also on the Feeds page:

  • Add Native to Channels DVR: the whole feed on FastChannels' own guide.
  • Add whole feed as one source (ah4c users): regular and bridged channels in a single DVR source.
  • Re-adding a feed now keeps your DVR-side settings, like stream limits.

:key: Easier sign-ins

  • DirecTV Stream: sign in with a code. Approve a link in your browser, no password stored, and sessions renew on their own. Thanks to @mackid1993 for working this out!
  • TV Everywhere: a different provider per source. Each TVE source can now use its own TV provider sign-in.
  • TCM joins TBS, TNT and truTV.

:clapper: Amazon Prime Free in HD

On FastChannels Player, Amazon Free channels now play at up to 1080p (was 576p).

:hammer_and_wrench: Bug fixes

  • Fresh installs no longer lose Gracenote IDs on the first restart (#70).
  • Channel number locks and new feeds behave more predictably.
  • Steadier guides for FOX One and Roku; Tubi keeps its login between scrapes.
  • Frndly channels outside your plan are handled properly by the stream audit.
  • Quieter logs, with account emails and signed URLs masked.

 Upgrading

  • Docker: docker compose pull && docker compose up -d
  • FastChannels Player is unchanged at 5.2.10.

Full release notes: Release FastChannels 5.6.0 · kineticman/FastChannels · GitHub

As always, let me know what breaks, especially with custom playlists, since every provider's playlist is a little different.

Where do I find "Guide Mode"?

He is probably referring to the guide configuration in Channels DVR sources

I've added a feed for Sports to get ESPN+ etc. I can see them in CDVR guide at the correct playing time.
When the time comes to play/record, I’m assuming that they will use the Fast Channels player and not the ESPN app. Is that a correct assumption?

I currently use FDL w/ADBTuner to watch and record which allows to filter to team level per sport. Is there a chance to get that type of filtering here (wishlist) in the future?

Thanks for great work here with FC & FDL!!!

Yep- plays through FC Player (like rest of ESPN source).

And yea I was going to add team filtering - wanted to let you guys kick the tires on this first run at it, but should be easy to add that next. I got league/sport filtering in there now.

In the Fast Channels guide filtered for ESPN, it shows a channel logo for a non-existent NCAA football game, but "No EPG Data" in the timeslots, which is correct. But when it shows in the CDVR guide, the same channel logo shows and it also shows guide data in the timeslots, so it looks like there is a game on. It's confusing for users.

Just a quick Thanks! for taking the time to address this in 5.6.0
I took a peek at the change....very clever  (It's nice to see commented code)

you mind sending me examples of what you're seeing there?

It's early so this is just a point of reference. I'm comparing the (2) Volleyball games in the screenshot. The top entry is an advanced pass that I have set up that pulls from my FDL/ADBTuner. The 2nd one is a manual record set up thru CDVR guide.

I tried to get the FC game to show in the pass but wasn’t able to so I set up as a manual. I’ll see if anything changes closer to the game time.

good call out. CDVR doesn't like blank XML. I'll replicate what I did with FDL to create some synethic epg "upcoming" program data.

Here you go.

Switch to v2 of the CDVR webui and it shows correctly.

V2:

cool I'm seeing the same too.. more of a CDVR issue how they put big blocks when no program data, but I'll add an optional blocks like FDL does:

So both recorded as expected with no issues. Also recorded another couple of games without issue.

Had (2) FC Sports & (2) FDL/ADBTuner games recording while watching one.
No issues!!!

BBC News just announced it's live on YouTube. I added it as a custom channel and so far so good:
