Thanks @Waffles Here's hoping after the new version comes out that I see something similar in the logs for my local area!
Yea itβs broke. Will fix.
Looks like great stuff. Have you considered created a native Windows application for this (non-Docker)?
Sheesh, Troy. That thumbs down came less than 5 seconds after I posted that. That's gotta be some kind of record for compatibility hatred.
I run Windows lol
I think you can run Docker in windows, so why don't you just try that?
Because based on a user suggestion here in the forum numerous years ago, to get some control over Windows, I set my server up with Windows 10 LTSC Enterprise 2019. Crazy question, why not develop software for the greatest percentage of users on the planet? Is it just too hard?
Windows user here. I have an easy answer - although Windows is the OS with the greatest market share, it doesn't mean it's the OS that advanced users use the most or that it's the best OS to develop software like this on. Besides, it doesn't matter. You can run Docker on Windows. Why develop for Windows if you can already run on Windows? You can also run a supported OS via Hyper-V.
Also, I disagree with running Windows 10 LTSC being a good option, but that is a subject for another day and another forum.
Might be an interesting question if true. However, Linux has the largest number of users on the planet when all device types are considered. Android is number two, with its dominance in mobile, and then third is Windows.
Many companies develop software agnostic to OS so it runs on almost all platforms. It's much easier to develop and maintain. Much software is developed with python, java, docker, etc.
I don't mean any disrespect to the developers here. It was just a simple question to this particular developer. I can't help but think that Channels DVR overall userbase would benefit from a native Windows app. I had a hunch that as some dumb Windows user I'd get burned to the ground for it.
Is this really true?
Peoples....
Please take off topic "please support this platform/which OS is best" talk elsewhere.
Rather not have the mods lock this thread when things devolve into such flame wars.
This thread is regarding FastChannels, not Channels DVR. Channels DVR server can run in Windows. FastChannels can't unless you install Docker. The number of users that would want to run FastChannels on Windows is probably a very small minority, not the majority like you're implying (and again, you CAN run it in Windows).
There isn't a Channels DVR app for Windows, but you can view content via the web browser instead. In reality, most people don't watch content on their PC - they watch it on their TVs and devices (phones/tablets) which is where the apps exist.
Yes Linux has the "largest amount of users", but that's a bit misleading because its counting things like IoT devices.
My two cents-- Docker allows ease of development for software to be useable between different operating systems. Think of it like Java famously said "Write once, run anywhere."
I totally get Docker is a bit foreign to most people, but seriously it's really easy. You can download Docker Desktop for Windows and be up and running in 15 minutes.
Absolutely agree. I was afraid of Docker until I tried it, and then I was like "wow this is so easy!"
You have my complete respect, and thanks for coming here and dedicating your time and effort to support such a small audience. With all the forum posts pointing folks back to this endeavor, I just thought I'd ask. Apologies for causing such a rucus, that was not the intent.
Some things though, do not work well with Docker for Windows.
Homebridge, mentioned will have issues with it, devices can not connect to it. something about networking support with Docker for Windows. They still have notices about their old, last i looked, no longer supported native installer on Windows.
MacOS I also have seen notes on issues with some docker setup.
(i thought i had read somewhere here that CDVR Server in Docker for Windows had some issues or quirks of its own to deal with, vs the native Win server setup, but can't recall)
Linux based setup seems best for Docker use. In my mild experience with Docker in general.
I just wanted to clarify for any native Windows users that come across this, there absolutely is a Channels DVR app for Windows. It's what I pay for and have been using for years, and it works pretty darn good.
What? There is no native Windows Channel DVR Client app. **
You can use Plex or Emby etc as a front end for CDVR server...those have windows apps.
I assume u mean Channels Server application.
