Would be nice to set up a client exactly how you like it and then copy those settings to other clients on the network. I have 9 clients and I make them all look and feel the same, so being able to clone from one to the other(s) would be really handy.
I agree this would be helpful in some cases.
For your case, it seems like it would make sense to let those 9 clients use the global server side settings, and then maybe set specific settings for the couple clients that wouldn't use that same exact set of settings.
How many clients do you have?
+1 i like idea.
I have a total of 9 clients, but as habits form for various family members, we tend to congregate in our home around specific devices, so my wife has 3 TV's that are "hers" where I have the clients customized for her viewing - specific custom channels, what loads up when she opens up channels, favorites etc.
My kids have other TV's that they tend to congregate around, and those are "theirs", so I have those customized for them.
As various viewing tastes change etc, I update the clients and it would be super helpful to be able to clone one of them to the others in that "group". If I know that Nvidia Shields 1, 2 and 3 are the same and Chromecasts 1 and 2 are, then I can just make my changes once in each group and then just duplicate them.
Also incredibly helpful when you need to tech refresh your devices. Right now, I'm replacing a couple old chromecasts with newer 4K devices and would be great if I could just copy over settings to the new devices.
Ok so you don’t have 9 clients with all the same settings, but you want to clone settings from one to get its base setup, and customize from there.
Do I have that right?
Yeah, correct. I have a total of 9 clients. Group of 4, 3 and 2.
As another use case: members of a family get new phones. Each already has individual client settings set on the server. Now I want to clone those old settings to the new phones for each individual member and not have to manually do it.
we’ll work on this. I’d had this thought in the past already. Thanks for the feedback. It always helps to see if the effort will provide value.
This probably wasn’t something we needed when it was first added, but as time has passed, all these scenarios exist now.
