Feature Request: Commercial Removal

I currently use MythTV for my DVR with some post processing that marks and removes commercials. It then transcodes to put it into Plex. While this setup is a little complex, if the Channels DVR could just mark commercials (with some settings on how aggressive to make it), I wouldn’t need my complex setup.

Has this been considered?

Thanks!

I am one of the developers on the comskip project you’re using to detect commericials. So yes, this feature has definitely been considered

Definitely an outstanding feature on my wish list.

I would like a way to remove commercials too, Please keep in mind that A windows based solution is not useful for those of us who are all Apple.

I added full support for Linux and Mac to comskip a few months ago.

This would be huge for me. I mainly use Hulu with no commercials so I do not have to deal with it. That handles about 70% of what I would use a DVR for. I currently use the DVR mainly for CBS and a few other shows. If the DVR could remove commercials (reliably) I would drop Hulu and go all in on the DVR for a single play list. And as I said before I would like the play list to be unique to me (or my own personal DVR).

Could you provide a link to the OS X download. Everything I find with searches are for Windows.

At the moment you need to build it yourself, using the instructions in https://github.com/erikkaashoek/Comskip#readme

OMG, why haven’t you put this into Channels already for people watching on a delay after pausing 10-15mins, or on the old DVR Beta? This needs to go into the next DVR project for sure.
Com skip, grid guide, being able to see upcoming recording schedules and being able to run at least 2x SD HDHR connects please. Build that and have it running on a 2tb My Cloud NAS and I will hand you my first born …

now im doubly happy that i paid my donation!

Is this something that you maybe able to get working on the new DVR project for those of us who’ll be running it on a NAS? Or will it be for PC/Mac always on users only due to hardware reasons?

NAS support would be super!

Unlikely it will work on NAS, they just don’t have the cpu/ram to support it.

COMSKIP is not something I have ever used. But if it really worked well I would upgrade my hardware to support it. Do you think this is a feature that would be part of the initial beta? Maybe on the MAC DVR? Also, my office uses the Synology DS415+ which seems pretty fast with the Intel Atom Quad Core 2.4 GHz Processor.

Freenas a possibility?

Then I will probably install the DVR server onto Windows or Freenas. Hope you will support either. Wouldn’t want to keep my Macbook running 24/7.

Although this would be a nice feature I’m not sure I want to leave my iMac on 24/7 or that it would be worth purchasing more hardware for. With the fact that there will be a cost associated with the DVR software, for most there becomes a point at which the cost of hardware out ways the benefit of cutting the cord (especially since a NAS is still needed).

This would be huge. Already have a Mac running 24.7 for Plex.

Out of curiosity, is it something that would work with both of these Mac Mini's? They're a little dearer than a NAS but allows for much more potential.
