Feature Request: Default recording settings

I’m loving Channels DVR, and see it becoming my main TV recording system. However, every time I set a recording I always give it a buffer. Also, every time I set up a season pass, I like to set a deletion rule. Would it be possible to have a configuration page that allows you to set default recording options? Thanks.

I like this suggestion

I want this too.

I use the Web UI to create passes…which has both padding (my defaults drop in from the settings page) and keep options when setting up.

Or am I misunderstanding request? ATV??

It’s more that I’ve had to set up over a dozen passes, and each one I’ve had to repeat applying the same settings. It’s a matter of speed and convenience, and probably not the most urgent feature request to date.

Did you set up padding/buffer (defaults) on the UI Settings page? Pick your most used. Then on each pass or job you can override the default with a new value.

Edit to add “buffer”

I think he means on ATV, where the defaults are not respected and there is no way to set them. There is also no way to set a default for the Keep option.

Actually, I had missed the defaults on the UI Settings page. Thanks for the heads up, Debbie! There’s more in the web interface than I thought. But yes, it would be good if the Keep option was there too, or alternatively there was a global setting on the ATV client.

The tvOS client will eventually be able to read and utilize these defaults :+1:

And that’s why I continued to use the UI for setup…

The default padding feature needs to be highlighted and also the “new advanced pass” (DVR page / Passes / Gear Symbol) for all joining the Beta.

These two features are both great differentiators for Channels vs the other guy.

You’re welcome…and check out all of the options to create “new advanced pass”. see above for path. I’ve been able to setup all of our quirky use cases.

BTW: Devs have indicated plans to restructure same during Beta.

In time, we’re not happy with those editors in the least. Eventually we’ll have full forms that let you build them, rather than you having to edit really opaque properties.

Fun Fact: it’s the first piece of UI @tmm1 made for the web admin!
