Feature Request: tell the DVR that 2 different series ID are for the same show

Case in point: my wife likes the show "Diagnosis Murder" and she saw recently that it was airing on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and on Pluto TV too. She created 2 passes in order to record all episodes.

On Hallmark Movies & Mysteries: SeriesID == 184251
On Pluto TV: SeriesID == pluto/612d1d802274a5001329ff23

I noticed recently that there were duplicate episodes of season 2 in the recording list because they happen to air on both channels and, as far as the DVR is concerned, they are different shows. This is understandable, the DVR has no way to know about the actual content.

I don't know how much of headache that would be for the developers but I wish there was a way to tell the DVR that these series ID are for the same show. This way, the DVR will not record duplicate episodes. :slight_smile:

When recording full Older Series I use the Title Instead of the ID as I never trusted the ID to Stay consistent, but I know the Title will be the same.

So I guess if I create a single pass with the title "Diagnosis Murder", the DVR will not record duplicate episodes even from different series IDs? As long as they belong to the same pass?

That is the way I do it have not had duplicates. Pluto Series ID are not at all consistent.

No, you'll get duplicate episodes. de-dup is done using ProgramID.

What he meant was the Pluto SeriesID is unreliable, so better to use Title match in your pass to get all airings of "Diagnosis Murder" across all sources.

For comparing, Season and Episode numbers are unreliable.
Pluto even airs the same episode with different episode numbers.

Probably the closest one could get is by comparing Episode Title.
But even then you would have issues.

Your Example above is why I use other software to record series I want to keep ... They add the year to the folder ... so in your example of outer limits, Macgyver .. Magnum PI etc.. it groups them all together. They also have the option to not record if already in your library. They match by season episode and episode Title.
