I think the top pull down menu is a great feature when watching live TV to jump to favorite channels. Can jumping to the recordings section be added to that same pull down menu. And vice versa when watching a recording can Live TV or at least favorite channels be added to the pull down menu.
This way there is less backing up the to main screen going to the top and switch tabs to watch live tv or recordings.
