What filesystem are you using and what is the limit?
MacOS Mojave, external disk I think formatted to AFPS. I don't know what is the limit. This was first time I seen something like this.
Looks like 255 is a common limit
I don't know if this problem may appear in US television but I am scared to think what is in Germany with their looooooooong words. Do you have any idea how to deal with this issue in future builds?

The problem is technically from the guide data. It is putting the title and subtitle together, so the show of the name is incorrect.
It is not clear to me if the error is coming from the long filename or the long folder name for the TV show.
Did the xmltv have a separate <title> and <sub-title> for this airing?
