File Too Large Errors

I noticed that several of our TV Shows are getting clipped (47 minutes instead of 60 minutes), etc., etc. I went to the log and found this error that pops up a TON during the recording of one show. Any show that is clipped is showing this error. Note that not all hour long shows get this, as This Is Us and The Good Doctor recorded just fine.

I’m not one of the developers, just another DVR user.
It sounds like your DVR drive or your quota on it is full.
You may want to post what computer/OS you’re using for the Channels DVR.
If a USB drive, what size and what file system is it formatted with.
i.e. what is /Volumes/NO NAME/DVR/TV/

It’s a SanDisk 32GB Flash Drive. Still has 14GB free space, FAT32

FAT32 is an ancient format and limits the maximum file size.

Which, as the bit tmm1 quoted, as about 4GiB. The average 1-hour HD show is going to run more around 6GiB.

Your second problem is using a flash drive for this. You know those wear out, right? You can only write to them so many times, then you can’t, any more.

(I actually wore out a SanDisk 16GiB µSD card in about six months in a networked security camera just recently.)

It’s a temporary solution. I have a 128GB MacBook Air that I’m waiting to see if they announce a new MacBook before I upgrade. I’ll then get one with more space so I don’t have to use the flash drive.

Very well. But, in the meantime, if you want to record hour-long or more HD content, you’re going to need to reformat it to a more modern file system. exFAT, perhaps? (You’ll lose all your current data, naturally.)
