I've got a lot of passes for shows that are in syndication repeat (like Magnum: PI or Owlhouse or Simpsons) that I want to ONLY record the episodes I don't already have (not new shows, old episodes to flesh out the entire catalog). What is happening instead is that every time an episode appears, even if I already have a recording of it, it rerecords the episode.
Is there a way to just have it pick up the missing episodes?
That's the default behavior but it requires the guide source tag episodes with proper unique identifiers. Can you provide more details about where you're recording from and which guide sources are involved.
Sounds to me like the episodes don't have the proper guide source tags for episode numbers. If so, Channels like other DVR's (Tivo's do, I have one) does a "just in case" recording, and you'll have to dig through them to figure out which one is which.
Finally figured it out... there were some episodes not of the actual series (new reboots or such)... I've deleted them and now the library is good.
