Streaming perfectly from server to web url on Windows 10 PC but buffering significantly on Fire TV 4K stick at same location. Any recommendations? Server set to stream at 720p/3Mbs with a 1 minute buffer (no improvement increasing buffer size or downgrading to a lower resolution)
That thing supports 802.11ac with 2x2 MIMO. It should be capable of about 15 times that speed w/in any reasonable range. Heck, I'm getting 150-180Mb/s to our FireTV Gen. 2.
I'd say dump that WiFi router and get a decent dual-band WiFi Access Point. Ours is an EnGenius EAP1300 and performs like gangbusters throughout the house.
And don't use the built-in Ethernet switch in that router, either. Get a decent Ethernet switch. I've had good luck with NetGear ProSafe GigE switches.
My networking hardware mantra: Routers to route. Switches to switch. Access Points to WiFi. And never the terne shall merge.
Thanks jseymour. Turns out that the FireTV wifi signal is the same as my other wireless devices, i.e., greater than 170Mbps. But the problem persists. Not sure how to resolve this one. I did stream via the web url using Firefox on the Fire TV stick and had no buffering issues. Very frustrating given that my upload speed on the server side is very good (Fios)
That's not a valid test. For web browsers the data is transcoded. The bandwidth demand is much lower.
Problem eventually solved by reducing the resolution of the streams from 1080 to 720. Not ideal but better than the constant buffering.
If I hadn't just bought a backup for our Internet border router (too many people have bricked theirs doing firmware updates) and a PoE switch for my planned video surveillance system I'd buy one of these just for grins.
