Fix for transcoder and Music Choice?

I’m running a QNAP TS-677 (Ryzen 5 based) NAS for my DVR and everything works great except for one thing.... Music Choice when outside of my network. Is there a way to make this work?

I have this problem too (my DVR server is a 2014 Mac Mini).

I suspect that this could be fixed by allowing low bitrate MPEG-2 channels to avoid transcoding. Currently, Channels seems to allow MPEG-4 channels to skip transcoding if they are under the target bitrate, but it seems to always attempt to transcode MPEG-2 no matter what (even when it probably causes a net increase in bitrate).

By the way, if you're persistent, you can get Music Choice to play remotely with transcoding enabled.

There is an element of luck involved. Music Choice has an extremely low frame rate -- far less than 1fps. You have to tune in at a time that allows enough frames to get to the transcoder's encoding buffer before it times out.

Even when you get the timing right, it can take about 30 seconds or so for audio/video to start appearing on the client device. The transcoded output is always several frames behind the transcoded input -- and several frames take a long, long time on Music Choice.

(Obviously, it's easier to just use the free Music Choice app on your smartphone.)
