Forced to pay twice for Channels app subscription!? No way!

I've been using Channels on my Fire TV for years. Decided to try it on Apple TV 4K.

But it seems Apple is forcing me to pay for a new Channels subscription via Apple Pay.

Someone please tell me I must be missing something - that can't be true - can it?

I just renewed my one year subscription a few weeks ago and I refuse to trash that $80 and start over with Apple. If that's the case the ATV being returned asap.

If you have a Channels DVR subscription, the Channels: Whole Home DVR app is free.

If you don't have a Channels DVR subscription, the Channels for HDHomeRun app in NOT free.

Thanks. Good to know.

However, as you said, Channels app is not free. When installing from the ATV app store the user must have an Apple account and payment must be made for the Channels app. Not seeing any way to avoid payment.

For the Channels: Whole Home DVR app, which is Free ?

No. It’s free. You need to make sure you search for the free “whole home” app.

It’s been awhile since I set up Apple account. If you are new to Apple I guess it’s possible that they may require a payment method on your account to even download free apps. If you haven’t added a payment method try doing that in your account settings first and then try to download the channels for whole home app.
