Formats supported by imported media?

Hello, I'm brand new to Channels but not to technology. Loving what I see in the platform so far.

Using the HDhomerun and Playon integrations have been straightforward and simple. Now I'm starting with putting previously recorded TV series, movies in the Imports directory.

I've put in one series in .MPEG format, following the online support guidance for nesting and naming. I ask Channels to index using Local Content/Scan Sources. It returns very quickly and the shows don't show up in the Library. I'm not sure if this is Cannels doesn't ID the content or can't read the file format? I've been unable to find a support document with requirements.

Having said that, my goal is to have a little DVR that I take on the road when camping in remote areas. I have lots of CPU cores, scripting ability, and stuff before I leave on the trip, is there an ideal target format for Channels (transcoding or remuxing as needed)?

Thanks,

What path did you add and how is the show directory organized?

Maybe upgrade the dvr to prerelease and see if that helps.

All the major video formats are supported.

I worked under the default /media/DVR/Imports/TV, then added a series name (Life on Mars) and Season:
\Dvr-orange\media\DVR\Imports\TV\Life on Mars (UK)\Season 1

In that folder and eight MPEG files with the s1e01.mpg through e08 labeling.

Looks right. I think you need the prerelease for the default Imports directory to work. Click the drop down next to Check for Update and select the second option.

Just upgraded to pre-release, no change in behavior. I'm running a MCEbuddy convert of the files as a test, too. These MPEGs are from eleven years ago, just to make sure in a modern major format.

Please click Support > Troubleshooting > Submit Diagnostics

Done.

It looks like you've added /media as a path under local content movies, which is not correct. Please remove that and try scanning again

Deleted /media and it worked, I must have accidentally added that the day I built this first unit. Scan finds it now, and was able to match the show to the right title card.
