If fast playback can be done (in Apple TV) how about Frame-By-Frame option?

BeyondTV had a feature that once paused, you could press Fast Forward and it would advance frame-by-frame.
Yes, that was a very cool undocumented feature in Win7 Media Center.

Yes. Frame by frame mode , especially for sports would be awesome. A mode when pause is active then hit a button for advance by one frame, and another to go back by a frame,
If we could have a “replay mode” for the skip forward and skip backward buttons, with a toggle to enable replay mode. That would be real slick.
