I have installed channels on my Freenas 11.3 . The problem is I try to setup my storage and I already have a pool called media and dvr folder in there . User is set to nobody and group set to guest. Try to set my storage to my dvr folder and tells me don't have permission. What am I doing wrong?
I havn't used FreeNAS in a long time, but it is basically Linux.
A "nobody" user should not be used. As it is too restricted and for un-trusted NFS use.
Each service has its own account.

On my linux server, Mint 19.3, i had to give the "Channels DVR" system user read/write permissions to the storage directory. (don;t recall the actual username u need to use, you can find in the setup directions for Linux)
You can not use Guest permission, as I think those are read only.
No, FreeNAS—and now, TrueNAS Core—is FreeBSD. *BSD is quite different from Linux.
Ok..so whatever. then maybe it has different folder access permission system/terms...but it sounds like its the same or very similar to Linux.
The issue clearly is a permission issue, as the error message states.
What is the correct working permissions that needs to be set in FreeBSD for Channels to work then eh?
I wasn't even aware Channels DVR server could be installed on a DIY FreeNAS machine.
(I used to have a old desktop setup with 9 HDDS totaling ~18TB as a FreeNAS NAS for all my file backups, but retired it 4 years ago, when i moved to Gig internet and Cloud backup.)
FreeNAS uses FreeBSD's jails, which are similar to a chroot, but still different. A closer approximation might be LXC or systemd-nspawn containers, but neither really fully equate. Also, the filesystem is most likely ZFS, which introduces a few additional wrinkles.
Yes, it looks like an easy permissions issue. But the underlying foundations and file systems are different. If you don't even know what FreeNAS is, why are you chiming in?
I know what FreeNAS is, (or perhaps what it was i guess).
I used it for years with ZFS, and never had any permission issues..
I had set the ZFS pools and network share accounts fine, it was easy for the most part.
then again, i never tried to install addon software in it, as it did not support such things at the time.
Clearly, the OS is radical different now, so ...thanks for pointing out the obvious, that i don't know how to help, but you don't seem to be posting anything to the OP to resolve his issue...now are you. As you clearly seem to know everything about FreeNAS, and how it works, so ....feel free to do so. nothing more i can help with.
if you type id dvr in shell you will get the following
ID=820
Now I seem to have a different problem, even after setting the mountpoint and giving the user access to the share I can't login. When I go to the page I get the login prompt but then I get redirected to a different IP address. http://172.16.0.2:8089/auth/confirm?code=c5a036a4868a62c29f99470fa2360b571044f9891a905145e60db24799fb67ad
This seems to be the issue and now I just need to figure out where to change the setting.
