I have been getting a lot of freezing. I change channel and it works. My wifi is 121Mbs download. I’ve restarted imac computer, and unplugged the HDHomerun.
Any other ideas?
Restart your wifi router
121mbps is a sign that your 802.11ac connection is struggling. Should get much higher Tx Rate on a good connection. Note: this doesn’t even come close to gigabit ethernet transfer speeds.
But I do have something you can do that will let you know immediately what the problem is:
- Do a test by plugging your DVR in with an ethernet cable and try again.
I have ATT Gigapower fiber to the house but I only pay for 100Mbs service. Fast enough and $15 cheaper a month. I use ORBI routers. Main one is hard wired to ATT modem. 2nd ORBI is upstairs. HDhomerun is connected to the upstairs ORBI with cat5e cable. so I thought 121 down is good on a 100 system
Oh, if you are talking about your internet connection, that is good. A WiFi connection often will show the rate that it is able to transmit a half-duplex signal within the local network. 802.11ac should show a Tx Rate of somewhere between 500-1300mbps. That doesn’t mean you are getting equivalent of an ethernet connection, just that is a good signal for 802.11ac. But this is separate from your internet connection.
Are you talking about streaming over the internet? Or to AppleTV within your network?
Did you try the ethernet test?
Where is your DVR running and how is it connected to the network? It should be plugged in.
But, if not, here is an example of a Macbook laptop connected via WiFi. You can see the status of the connection by option-clicking the WiFi in the system menubar:

What HDHomeRun model? Is the firmware up to date?
A repeater also reduces bandwidth, by approximately half. This is probably a bandwidth issue.

Up to date!
I can’t connect ethernet directly to modem because I can’t get the attic antenna coax there. Odd thing is that it’s been set up like this for several months and I only experience the freezing problem periodically. I did resync my orbi satellite with the orbi router and no freezing now for 15 minutes.
The modem doesn’t really matter. The hdhomerun isn’t using it. You just need a stable connection between the hdhomerun, your dvr, and your apple tv. you could try plugging your dvr in to the same orbi where your hdhomerun is.
I rebooted both ORBI routers and the HDHomerun is not freezing now. So it was a Wifi issue
