French EPG + questions regarding interface

Hi all,

I have just purchased the Channels app, and everything is almost working as expected. I’m using it with a HDHR Connect (DVB-T) in France (not far from Paris).
So far, I’m getting mixed results concerning EPG data: almost half of the programs do not get images, and some channels logo are not displayed in the grid listing. I have tried multiple EPG providers from France from the app settings, but none are really consistent so far (incorrect channels numbers, logo not displayed, etc.) I guess EPG data are coming from SD, isn’t it?

I have another remark concerning the timeline which appears on screen when touching the Siri remote. This timeline shows by default the ongoing hour, i.e. right now it is 14h23 in France, and the timeline is split in 4 parts (corresponding to what?), starting at 14h and finishing at 15h, regardless how long the currently airing program lasts. I would have clearly prefer a timeline starting at the beginning of the program, and ending at the end of it. So why this 1 hour long timeline? Why not smaller/longer? With the current implementation, it is not so easy to catch at what time will end the currently running program.

Nevertheless, everything is working well. I just hope we will have more possibility regarding interface customization in the futur !

Guide data currently comes from our provider. The channel mappings are not always accurate, but we are able to fix them for you. What TV provider are you using?

SD is also in the process of activating a new international provider which should be available in France in the coming months.

Can you enter the correct channel numbers (from the Channels app) under each name/logo on the following page. Enter each number only once. When you finish, copy/paste the results and email to [email protected]

I have tried most of the providers in France, which are all more or less related to telecom operators only, not to free DVB-T airing.
I will send you an email ASAP. Concerning logo on the channel grid, most of them finally appear after a reboot of the ATV.

Thank you!

EDIT: quickly checking your link, some channels are still missing from it. I will send you a list of them in my email.

Here is SiliconDust’s thread on their new French provider: https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=119&t=63485

I’ve just left a message in the thread, thank you.

Concerning the second item in my initial post, concerning the “timeline” display: it is still difficult to explain my family how it works (1h display vs start and end of the ongoing program). Is there any plan to customize this?

Hi there.

I have just noticed that the app is now using EPG data from SD. I know they were also changing of data provider, and things are mainly correctly set (but with some remaining association error).
I guess I can not come back to the other configuration you just set up with the data I gave you per mail?

You can switch between the two by going to the Settings tab, click and hold on your HDHomeRun and then select “EPG from …” options.

Mmmmh, didn’t see that. It works perfectly now. Thank you!

Re: the interface, right now the timeline only shows 15min markers. It starts at 1h, but can grow up to 4h if the buffer gets bigger and bigger. On the right of the timeline, it will say “In X minutes: next show name”, so you can tell how long is left in the current program.

We have not tried annotating the timeline with the start/stop time from Guide. This could be an interesting change, but we will need to find some time to experiment with it to see. Right now we are focused on DVR, but should have time for UI improvements later this year.

OK. Thank you!
