Frozen Streams after Apple TV Awakens

I am seeing the latest Apple TV 4 app freeze after 1-2 two frames of video after AppleTV has been asleep for a while. Changing channels also only shows the latest frame. I can switch to VLC for Apple TV and after a little initial time it begins playing smoothly in VLC then can switch back to Channels, or reboot Apple TV it begins working again as well.

Don’t know if it is annecdotal but it didn’t seem to happen before latest update.

Are you putting the ATV to sleep, or does it sleep automatically? Are you forcing sleep while the video player is playing?

Automatically. I never configured a sleep setting so it must be Apple’s default setting to sleep when not in use.

Not sure if this might make it easier to debug.

I am also able to replicate it by pausing any channel Then selecting another from the guide. If it is not paused when I change the channel it doesn’t have the issue.

When attempting to load VLC I have to load channel twice first time it just spins. Second time it just begins playing — same trick doesn’t work in Channels.

I haven’t been able to reproduce this. I tried putting the ATV to sleep, waking it back up, then playing something. I also tried pausing playback, and then switching to another channel via the Quick Guide.

Thanks for looking at it. Swapped the Silicon Dust provided LAN cable with a new CAT6. Pause and changing channels works again. I’ll update tomorrow if the sleep issue persists.

Alright after 12 hours with out an issue I can assume it was a problem with the Silicon Dust provided LAN cable. Someone should really let them know – sure that is a cheap fix for them. Thanks for your help!
