Generage Commercial Edit thumbnails

Another user asked this question about the setting in Live TV & DVR regarding commercial thumbnails: (Question: Generate commercial editor thumbnails). The answer was a bit dismissive. Obviously, it creates thumbnails. But I see thumbnails in the commercial editor even with that disabled. When disabled, does Channels generate them on the fly only when I open the editor? I am exploring use of the editor but won't do that constantly. We record only OTA programs and don't keep anything after it's watched.

On that topic, is it possible to render larger thumbnails? Imperfect vision makes it hard to see them at the current size.

Thanks for your patience with a noob.

Correct

Can they be larger?

The generated images are large. It depends where you're looking. Can you tap or right click open to make them bigger?

OK. I'm using Edge in WIndows. I right clicked to open in a new tab and it's quite viewable. But that's a one-at-a-time thing. I guess I'm asking for the thumbnails to be larger.

Zoomed to 200 in Chrome after opening edit commercials, don't use edge so can't test it. Seems it does not matter if edit is opened first.

I didn't realize you could tap on a thumbnail image to see a larger, higher resolution, image. That helps a lot.

I dream of an option to bring up a video window with a scrub bar. Extra points if it's touch-screen friendly.

It's bigger in Edge @ 200, but not a lot. I did find that, if I hover over a thumbnail and tap Ctrl twice, it pops up a larger image. That's useful and probably all I need. That eliminates the need to change the whole screen to 200.

200%:

Ctrl, Ctrl on hover: (uploaded here @ 50%)

So, back to my original question, if thumbnails are generated automatically if I edit commercials, does checking the box in settings to generate thumbnails provide additional value?

Only if you are annoyed by the time it takes to generate them when you do want to edit commercials.

Nope. It's not even noticeable on my NAS.

Well, it wasn't noticeable until I started using enhanced editing. Now, it takes a moment. I may turn on thumbnail generation for awhile until I'm done evaluating how well commercial skip works.
