I picked up one of the new Google Streamer devices using a credit I had. Channels wasn't available in the store, so after a little frustration I downloaded the beta app and installed it. The first thing I noticed is hardware and hybrid playback doesn't work for me. Anyone able to get that working? Not sure if the devs plan to support this device, but I can provide logs of they interested.
I've seen multiple threads with Google TV Streamer issues. I have no idea what the issues are, it sounds codec related with how Android handles them.
These devices run these versions of Android:
Shield Pro - 11
Chromecast 4k - 12
Onn Pro - 12
Google TV Streamer - 14
So, as you can see the GoogleTV Streamer is running 14, meaning that it's not surprising that there would be issues. It's the lastest GoogleTV OS.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I believe something changed in 14 that the devs need to adapt Channels to or Google needs to address.
Was looking at this new Google Streamer as a "upgrade" from the Chromecast with GTV dongle that only uses wifi and has very limited on device storage. (and this new streamer is a Matter Hub).
Why would the Channels app not be on the Google Play store for this device when it is on every other device, including its lower end predecessor?
For $99 though, it is very overpriced says most reviewers as it seems to perform only slightly better than its older much cheaper predecessor. Some seem to have much better performance, some say it is worse. It is all over the place far as i can tell.
There is not a Walmart near me, so i have no experience with Onn devices.
Though, the Onn Pro looks appealing to possible replace the Tube model Nvidia Shield and the built in speaker is nice.
