Ok maybe i had a bad unit as it would lockup when switching channels in the app or just after starting to watch a show.Tried a full reset but returned it after it still acted up. My slightly older Onn box works fine BUT the Pro was definitely snappier.

Better than onn 4K Pro?

Not seeing any tech specs as to what cpu/gpu etc it uses. (on the official pages anyways)

No backlit remote or usb ports... :-1: (though, maybe one can use a USB C hub with PD passthrough?)

Wonder how it would compare to the Nvidia Shield TV. Either the Tube model or the Pro model.

I saw a post on Android Police that hints in the firmware pointing to it being the same processor as the Fire Stick Max (2021). Though, it has double the storage and ram.

Ram most important factor overall?

If it has the FireTV 2021 processor equivalent that is really old.... and a lot slower then the Newer FireTV's that are much Cheaper.

Actually that processor is not much different from the current generation of Fire TV Stick 4K and the 4K Max.

The Google Streamer is believe to be powered by the MediaTek MT8696. The current gen Fire Stick 4K is powered by the MT8696D and Fire Stick 4K Max is powered by the MT8696T

All three chips use four 4x ARM Cortex-A55 cores just clocked at different speeds. The MT8696 clocks at 1.8GHz, while the MT8696D is at 1.7GHz and the MT8696T is 2.0 GHz.

That said, they are weaker than the current generation fire cube that uses a combination of four ARM Cortex-A73 at 2.2 GHz and four ARM Cortex-A53 at 2.0 GHz (It is unclear which cores are responsible for which functions of the Fire Cube)

That is my go-to device ...

Wondering how this new Google TV Streamer compares to say, the Tube Nvidia Shield TV?

Not worth it. I bought one and returned it. After 5 years, the Nvidia Shield is still the most powerful Android TV device. If you need a new Android TV streamer, you’re better off getting the Onn 4K Pro from Walmart for half the price of the Google TV Streamer with similar performance and features. Better yet, just get an Apple TV 4K.

Which Nvidia Shield? The Pro model?

I specifically mention the Tube model, as it is lower powered, 32bit, and has less features and is weaker hardware than its "Pro" model. The Tube Shield also is not recommended here (at least is was frowned upon some time back due to its 32bit OS). It is slow and laggy with Channels, and most any other apps. However, it is better in performance than the wifi only Chromecast with Google TV.

The new Google Streamer, has built in Wired Gigabit Ethernet, no annoying USB PD dongle needed.

It also has a built in Thread/Matter hub, boarder router.
So, if you have Matter devices, you can tie them into the Google ecosystem, a nice thing for those, like me, who are a dual household, mainly using Apple Homekit; but still have some things that only work with Google Home. Having all devices work on both platforms, could be a decent incentive to get this streamer.

But, those two features, seem to be the only highlights to this new device.

It seems to be a mixed bag of reports as far a performance increase. Most of the youtube vids i have seen, from the normal trusted reviewers and specific cord cutter channels, state and show a noticeable performance increase compared to the CCGTV. But, most state, it is a higher price then they think it should be.
However, several individuals i have messaged, report barely any difference and not worth the price to upgrade.

I did read that you can get a $10 back from Google, if you request it, due to the fact they do not include a HDMI cable.

I'll offer a different opinion. I "upgraded" two of my 2019 shield pros for the Streamer and couldn't be happier. Performance is super snappy. No random reboots or freezes that require a power pull when switching between apps. No audio delays or drops when pausing and resuming shows. Video quality is noticably better - getting rid of the shield AI enhancement and letting my TV do it (Sony's enhancer is superior IMO). I also love the "app only" mode that removes all the suggested bloat and just shows a single add on the top and not countless rows of them.
