Grace Note Guide Data Parsing Issue?

I’m not sure if there is maybe some issue with how you guys parse the guide data from grace note. I’ve mentioned in the past about an issue not being able to set a series pass for Homeland on Showtime East which I later discovered was because the 9PM showing for it on my Showtime East channel was not listed in the guide and we had chalked it up to Grace Note guide data perhaps being the issue. However, I have since discovered that data for my Showtime East channel is always missing on Sundays between 7PM - 3AM. There is data before and after that time frame for that channel and checking Plex DVR beta which I also have and which also uses Grace Note for its guide data does show listings during that time and I can successfully schedule recording of Homeland at the 9PM time slot using Plex DVR. This tells me that Grace Note data is correct and not missing anything and that Channels DVR/Guide is having a problem parsing the info for the 7PM - 3AM time slot on Sundays for my Showtime East channel (Ch 865). Ch listing: DVR: USA-FL67160-X

Can you check the log? Find the guide download entry that corresponds to Sunday at 7pm and post that it says, along with the entry before and after it.

Nothing obvious in logs that I can see.

Indeed, looks normal.

+1 on this as it seems to always happen with showtime east. I also saw some channels just blank and thus potentially miss recordings. I’ve mentioned this issue on some of my posts before.

Okay I think I see what’s going on… the airing time on the EAST/WEST stations are the same (i.e. don’t take the timezone into account), which is causing the DVR to think they’re the same and the WEST entry wins because it has a higher channel number.

Definitely a bug. Will need to think about ways to solve it.

Actually the airings are stored per channel so they shouldn’t be conflicting. Not quite sure what’s happening yet.

Yeah. It’s really weird. Like krblgc said I’ve since noticed some other channels like Showtime Extreme East exhibit the same behavior where certain show airings are just skipped over and left blank in the guide. I’ve been trying to compare/see what shows/movies it’s skipping over and so far the only apparent commonality is that the missing listings that I’ve found so far are all rated TVMA. I doubt and don’t see why that would be cause of issue since the West coast feeds have no problem but thought I’d mention it anyway.

I’m wondering if a temporary work around would be to somehow use the west coast listings for the troublesome channels and offset it 3 hours to compensate.

re-downloading the guide does not fix this.

sometimes there will be guide information, sometimes none. and once its blank, you cannot tune in for the guide grid.

no issue on my fios cable box nor windows media center guide. maybe it’s an issue on how the DVR app is getting it from Gracenote.

What if you disable/hide the east version of the channel?

I’m not sure I understand the implementation of this request as that would remove the wanted channel from access and the guide? Can you detail further the intent?

Correct it would remove the channel, but presumably you don’t care since the EAST version has the same content and at the right time. Either way, I’m just curious to hear if it makes any difference, as it will help narrow down where the bug might be occuring.

there’s a 3-hours difference.

also, on other showtime channels with the same situation [east and west coast feed channels], there are not much issues. it seems to happen more on the main showtime channel east feed.

Wait. Do you mean remove EAST or WEST version?

In case there is confusion, I’m on the EAST coast and it’s the EAST version of channels that are the issue. If I remove the EAST versions then I’d be stuck with the WEST version of channels which airs everything 3 hours behind my time zone.

Again, these EAST version channels do have data for most of the day’s listings but certain listings during the day are just skipped over (usually 1 - 4 hours) for some weird reason. They are listed in Plex DVR which draws from Gracenote as well and WMC as krblgc has pointed out has the listings so something about how Channels is parsing info from Gracenote for some of the listings seems amiss on these stations.

I will say I’m starting to suspect it may be actually show specific as the same “shows” (i.e. Homeland on Showtime and The Affair on Showtime) are correlating to the skipped listings on that Showtime East channel for me. In other words, those same shows that were not listed from last night are also missing from that channel for the reruns today so it seems to be following the specific shows themselves.

only common on those 2 shows are MA rating.

Remove the WEST so only the EAST is used, and see if the data shows up next time guide is downloaded.

Unfortunately, removing the WEST did not help. Still getting missing time slots on EAST and seemingly show related as another rerun of Homeland (rated: TVMA) is skipped over tonight along with Inside the NFL (rated: NR) before and after Homeland. Also, it happens for both the HD and non HD version of the EAST Showtime channel.

OKay you were right, the TVMA is the issue.

This issue has been fixed in the upcoming 2017.01.25.0359 release.
