I have the Channels DVR engine installed on a Windows 10 PC and I'm using several Nvidia Shields with Channels to watch and record TV. The guide data only appears to go out for about one week when I try to set up a future recording on one of the Shields. When I check the Channels DVR app on the Windows 10 PC it clearly shows the guide data out to at least 14 days. Am I missing a setting in the Channels app to make sure the guide extends as far on the Shields as it does on the Windows 10 PC?
Where are you seeing this? In the guide tab? In the search tab?
I'm looking at the Guide tab. I enter the guide and scroll to the right and it stops after about only a week. Right now it is Wednesday and when I looked at it earlier it only went up to about Sunday evening and then would not allow me to scroll further. If I look at the guide on my Windows 10 PC where the DVR engine is installed it shows the full 14 days of guide data. It makes it extremely difficult to set up future recordings on the Shields if I have limited access to future programs in the guide.
If you use the search does it find the later airings?
I did a voice search for "4400" and it gave me the original series on Netflix. I then tried a text search and it gave me the FIOS channel for the current series. I had to switch over to the Windows 10 PC and change it to the OTA channel for my local CW station. I like to be able to scroll through the guide and not have to do a specific search for something. If the guide is supposed to extend for two weeks then why aren't I seeing the entire guide for that period? I know the guide data is available for at least the next 14 days but it's just not showing up on my Shield.
Did you try any of the guide maintenance settings like delete and recreate database and then rebooting the Shield?
I did all of that recently when I was adding the ATSC 3.0 channels to the guide. As of 1:50 PM today, the guide on my Shield only goes out as far as next Monday at 10 PM. I have never been able to go out as far as 14 days on my Shield in the guide and I have been using Channels for well over a year. I love the program, but this one issue irritates me.
I have four Shields connected to different TVs and they all exhibit the same guide limitation. I have just deleted the guide and I am currently rebuilding the database so I'll let you know how that goes.
Do the time/date labels at the top keep going to the right when you reach the end?
Just a guess, but how many total channels do you have?
Could it be not enough memory/disk space on the Shields to cache all the guide info?
The last time I ran EPG123 on my Windows 7 HTPC I believe it was in the neighborhood of around 781 channels. That includes both FIOS and local OTA channels. I have both the older versions of the Shield as well as the latest Shield Pro with 12 GB of memory. I'm not sure what the capacity of the older ones are. I believe there is an option to add external USB storage so maybe I'll add a USB drive and see if that helps. It's really only an issue on my Shield Pro because it's the only one I use for setting up recordings. The others are mostly just for watching live TV and streaming from Netflix.
Just for kicks I added an 8GB flash drive to my main Shield and transferred over some of the data from the Shield's storage. When I went to check on the status of both storage devices I had barely put a dent in either the Shield or the USB drive. When I ran a guide data rebuild it showed the guide data at around 922 MB. The guide data is clearly not overwhelming the storage on the Shields so I'm not sure why it's not extending the guide out to 14 days like it should.
I just tried this on my TiVo Stream 4K and was able to click right on the guide until "Sun 11/14, 08:30 AM" before it stopped loading.
How far does it get for you? Which shield model are you using?
After you go right as far as you can, click Settings > Support > Submit Diagnostics > Guide
