Harmony Remote Control

Sure do miss the pressing the “Guide” button on my “Harmony One” remote control.
Can the guide be selected directly, without going thru the menu??

Sorry, the only buttons available to tvOS applications are the same ones on the Siri remote. The Apple TV won’t respond to any foreign buttons.

The cursor keys on my Harmony One (IR) remote, which is set up to emulate an apple remote, work on other ATV apps. In particular, if I hit pause, then left or right, it skips forwards and backwards, in a manner similar to but different from top-left or top-right click, because it enforces a pause first. That would be useful to implement in more-or-less the same way at least, for those that want to use a unifying remote.

Your atv remote can control your tv, sound system, and apple tv. It works seamlessly. The technology is called HDMI-CEC. The days of bulky Harmony remotes are ending.

!?!
That ATV remote turns on the power to my tv and receiver and changes the volume on the receiver, but it can’t control inputs on the receiver. It is such a sad remote that they had to stop enforcing it’s compatibility. If voice is going to take over for buttons and gestures. They need to open it up more. Apple wants it to be everything but I still need Ultraviolet integration, and I still have a library that is in DVD and blue ray. If you think people on the forums using mcbuddy scripts and plex and buy hundreds of dollars in NAS disks are the norm, you better pop the bubble.

Apple is going to choke and die on its rigidity.

I only mentioned it because, although I do own two Harmony One remotes, they are both stored away in a drawer somewhere. I just prefer the ATV remote, considering that I don’t use DVD/Blu-Ray and, with Channels, I only need the Apple TV to watch TV. So my Apple TV remote quickly turns on the ATV, TV to correct input, and Sound System to correct input… and it does it much faster than the Harmony. It also is much more responsive and doesn’t have to be pointed in any particular direction since it uses bluetooth rather than IR. My Apple-TV is not visible. HDMI-CEC is totally awesome!

I enjoy that simple configuration in my bedroom, but I also just bought a second harmony because there is just som much that can be done with 7 buttons

If I could setup ATV 4 to tune correct TV input (on our older TV), I’ll be getting another ATV.

Thanks for the detail on your posting, will try on that old TV tomorrow with one of our 2 ATVs. Hopefully it utilizes HDMI-CEC correctly.
