HD 16:9 channels displayed at 4:3

I apologize if this is off-topic, as I’m 99% sure this is a problem with my cable provider (Grande Communications in Austin, TX). For the past few weeks, several HD channels – all Viacom-owned – have been displayed at a 4:3 ratio instead of 16:9. This affects recordings and live viewing.

Here’s a sample from MTV taken directly from my Channels DVR. I believe it’s something in the stream’s metadata, but my abilities to inspect media formats only extend to ⌘i. I tried contacting my provider last week, but of course I haven’t heard back. Any info someone could provide about what’s causing this issue might help me get it fixed.

Yea it’s being sent with the wrong metadata attributes for aspect ratio.

Have you tried turning on the “Stretch to Fit” option in the settings. That might force the aspect ratio to what it should be.

I’ve never noticed that setting before. Now the native apps are working perfectly! Thanks.

Unfortunately, some of my other use cases for my HDHomeRun Prime are still affected. Grande says the issue has been escalated to their engineering dept, so maybe they’ll fix it soon.
