HD Homerun - Remote Streaming - Buffering Issues (SHIELD)

I'm having issues with remote viewing content from my HD Homerun Quatro 4K. I've tested this on my Pixel 3XL with WIFI off and while remote at my parents house using their Amazon Fire Stick. When viewing the TVE stations, there's no buffering issues.

What could cause the frequent buffering when viewing content out of the HD Homerun and not through a TVE everywhere source? Are the upload requirements different? I have 35mbps upload. I've asked my parents to set their Internet Streaming quality to 8mpbs. I assume the internet connection is not the issue.

I'm using an Nvidia Shield as the DVR server by the way.

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with Transcoder (Hardware/Software) and Deinterlacer (Blend/Linear?). Any help is appreciated.

What does the Settings > Support > Speed Test option in the app report?

When I do that it brings me to the DVR Status page. I'm not seeing a speed indicated anywhere.

I just tried a remote streaming of 1mbps and the buffering still occurs every 5 seconds or so.

Well, I imagine transcoding might be playing a role. When using TVE, the stream is simply remuxed (same streams, just different container); when doing OTA remotely the stream must be fully transcoded.

There was a previous post similar to this and the problem was the speed of the hard drive. The user replaced a disk with an SSD set up and it fixed the problem.

On the DVR web UI, when playing back, what does it say under the player? Is the fps/rate more than 60fps/1x?

If you're using an NTFS formatted drive with your SHIELD, that could be part of the problem. ExFAT works much better on SHIELD.

SSD should not be necessary.. a regular USB3 drive is fast enough if formatted correctly.

Formatting the drive to ExFAT seems to have solved the problem. Thank you!
