HDFX-4K with Apple TV and astc3.0/NextGen TV volume

Upgraded to the HDFX-4K after I learned we have Fox broadcasting astc3.0 in our area (Dallas/Ft Worth, TX). However, when we tune to the channel (104), the volume is significantly lower than all other stations we get....so much so that its impossible to use since you change the channel away from Fox and its extremely loud!

Apple TV 4K (1st gen, from 2017)
Channels App updated to latest
Firmware on HDFX-4K is at the latest (20230505).
TV - LG and Sonos Soundbar. Also tested with another TV - Samsung using built in speakers.

I do not have this volume issue when using the native HD HR windows app from my PC or the Apple TV HD HR app on the same TVs mentioned above.

I have the same hardware config except I have a Samsung soundbar. I have not noticed any volume difference in the astc3.0 channels.

Then you need to contact your local Fox affiliate and tell them their broadcasts need fixing. Channels only delivers what is sent to the app; if the broadcast's volume is low, then you need to tell the broadcaster to fix their volume levels.

Did you read the part where I said this isn't an issue w the native HD HR app?

This is a known issue in some ATSC3 broadcast regions.

You can try the testflight beta to see if there is any improvement.

Does your playback device support AC-4 natively, or is it using SD's cloud audio transcode? This could help narrow it down.

SiliconDust publishes their own app in the apple app store. There is support for this on Apple TV and also a PC. The volume issues mentioned above dont occur w this app (only w the Channels App). Obviously I dont want to use the SD app and prefer Channels.

I will try the testflight beta as tmm1 mentioned.

I also am in the Dallas area and have the same problem using GoogleTV and Firesticks with channel 104. But my Sony TV with ATSC 3.0 tuner plays the audio just fine and just like you have seen the HDHomerun App works. I gave up caring about it for now. Apparently we will have ATSC 1.0 for at least 4 more years.

HDHR App

Apple TV 4K works, utilizing our cloud transcode service.

Just for reference, I've now examined the latest HDHR apps running on my Roku Ultra 4800, Shield Tube, ATV4K, and LG C9 TV

Thanks! At least I know its not just me.

Not just you.

Can we get a 60s capture from this channel sent to [email protected]

see Channels Support - HDHomeRun FAQ

Done.

As a test using my Sony Google TV that has a ASTC 3 tuner, started HDHR app and set the audio to Digital Passthrough. Started playing the ASTC 3 channel, then disconnected the internet from the router, the station kept playing audio and video. Doing the same test with the HDHR app audio set to 5.1 Surround Sound the audio and video completely stopped. I guess this means it required the SD cloud to produce audio. So I believe my Sony TV can do AC4.
I tried the same test using my Firestick 4k Max connected to this same TV and it didn't matter how the HDHR app audio option was set, the audio and video would completely stop when the internet was disconnected.
