HDHomeRun Tuner Unreachable Error

I've newly setup Channels and I've noticed issues with playback, specifically on recordings, for the local CBS affiliate (4.1) related to the tuner being unreachable. Looking at the logs, it appears that this is the case on another channel (2.1) as well. As a result, the recordings are interrupted and/or don't play back as expected. Watching real time doesn't seem to be an issue however.

I searched the forum and some indicated that perhaps DNS settings were an issue. I've updated those settings on my router but there wasn't much else I could find. Looking at HD Home Run support details doesn't render any results either.

Equipment is an ATV 4K (first iteration of the 4K) and iPhones.
Windows 10 PC used exclusively for Channels DVR - fully refreshed and factory reset yesterday with all software and drivers updated to most recent versions.

Below is one of the error messages I'm seeing in the logs.

[ERR] Failed to start stream on channel 2.1 via 1079A222: HDHomeRun: 901 Tuner Unreachable: Could not tune to http://192.168.86.131:5004/auto/v2.1 after 30s
2025/01/22 18:15:43.308838 [DVR] Error running job 1737593820-14 The Big Bang Theory: could not start stream on channels=[2.1]: HDHomeRun: 901 Tuner Unreachable: Could not tune to http://192.168.86.131:5004/auto/v2.1 after 30s

Your HDHomeRun must have a fixed IP address. You can assign the fixed address on either the HDHomeRun or on your networks DHCP server which usually runs on your router. If you can assign the HDHomeRun the IP your channels server knows about, there is nothing more you need to do. Remember to restart your HDHomeRun after the IP is assigned on your DHCP server. If you can't give it the same IP, then you will need to remove it from channels and add it again.

Consumer models of the HDHomeRun do not allow for the assignment of static IPs. You can direct your router/DHCP server to reserve an address for them, but the device itself cannot assign its own address. (Only commercial models of SiliconDust tuners (TECH models) allow for static IP addresses.)

Thanks for the reply. Let me work with the IP and related settings and see what I can come up with.

If it's only two channels and you can watch an HDHR source channel live in the web UI or a client with tuner sharing enabled, I doubt it's an IP address issue. Of course you should use a DHCP reserved IP address for your server, HDHR tuner and Channels clients.

Can you reach the HDHR tuner web UI from a web browser at http://192.168.86.131 ?
Also try watching the channels with VLC at http://192.168.86.131:5004/auto/v2.1 and http://192.168.86.131:5004/auto/v4.1

I assume you are using an ethernet connection and made sure the pc doesn't go to sleep. Also you know Microsoft is stopping support of Windows 10 in a few months. Generally I don't use or want to use Linux, but you may want to think about it.

They are going to a subscription update service to make money like all these subscription services popping up all over the place ... It's all about the money.
