HDHR Connect Quatro + Prime - Recording Tuner Priority Failure

I have the Quatro and Prime set up with my Channels DVR. Quatro is top priority and Prime is secondary priority.

For some reason, the DVR won't let me record a movie scheduled in advance or a one time show that is about to begin on both HDHRs when all 4 tuners of the Quatro are in use.

For instance, say I have 4 shows recording and using all 4 tuners on the Quatro and NBC is not recording on the Quatro tuners. When I try to record a show on NBC OTA the DVR doesn't automatically tune to and record the NBC channel on my Prime. All 3 Prime tuners are free to use but DVR doesn't even attempt, and log just says OTA tuners all in use.

I've also had TV Everywhere with NBC local and even in that scenario the recording fails because all 4 OTA tuners are in use and DVR doesn't even attempt to try secondary priority Prime or third priority TVE.

I even tried removing Quatro and leaving just Prime and TVE. In this scenario if all 3 Prime tuners are in use the DVR doesn't even attempt TVE NBC local if I try an record the Prime NBC show about to begin. I tried this with other cable channels that are on both Prime and TVE too, but still get all Prime tuners are full and no DVR attempt to try TVE.

Same recording problem happens on browser admin guide, iOS app guide and FireTV app guide. All three have the exact same tuner priorities set, same NBC lineups and all are checked and active.

I've searched the forums trying to figure this out but couldn't find anything.

Restarting server, rebooting computer, reinstalling apps, reinstalling server doesn't make a difference. recording a show or future movie about to begin doesn't seem to utilize all the tuners and priorities no matter what I do.

How are you recording the show?

If you record from the guide it will only try to record the selected channel. If you search and make a pass or select a search result, it will include all possible channels.

That's a shame, because if you select from the guide, and channels have been collapsed/combined, then it will only allow recording from the primary tuner's channel, or from other tuners that have that same program on the same channel.

(I can see why this would be the desired outcome, Channels' combining repeated channels into the highest priority's channel listing makes this a difficult situation to overcome.)

I'm recording from the guide. Of course I would record the other source/channel if I knew the first source tuners were all used up, but that's not always evident because there's no error popup. I guess I was just hoping the DVR would automatically try other sources.

Did not know this was the case so this is good to know. Also probably explains those random missed recordings I've noticed occasionally in the past :smirk:

I did notice if you click upcoming airings in the web guide and record from there it will try all available sources.

Maybe they will add an upcoming airings button when clicking on a show in the app guides?

I just noticed in the iOS app that many of the same channels are now combined into just the OTA ones. So how am I suppose to browse in the guide to find a the show or movie on the NBC channel on HDHR Prime that has free tuner? If all the similar channels that duplicate OTA channels are grouped together in the guide then they should automatically try each source. This is getting very confusing.

Clearly this shouldn't be so hard and we need some improvements in this area.

I agree getting to upcoming airings from the guide would be very useful. And hitting record from the guide should work across channels. Will take a look to see if that's a simple fix we can make.
