When ios playback is set to original quality and adaptive bitrate kicks in due to bad cell connection quality hevc transcoding does not kick in, it just uses h264 as it adapts down and down. If you start with playback quality less then original it uses hevc transcode properly even if it needs to adapt down and down. Diagnostics submitted

That's the expected behavior when you select original because the original codec is also h264

Ok but when it goes from original to 2mb while watching the expected behavior is for it to not use hevc? Just trying to clarify
Also in the past if you set it to original, it would not ABR down. Now it does. Is that the expected behavior?

It will ABR down on Original only when the original source is h264, because it can create a h264 ladder. It's not currently possible to switch between codecs, which is why streaming mpeg2 or hevc using original will not use ABR.
