Housing for Raspberry Pi and external Drive

Does anyone know of a housing that can contain both the Raspberry Pi (already in it's own housing) and the USB hard drive, and maybe even the Homerun device as well. Right now they are all discrete units. but they are all small and would benefit from a one piece case. I am going to put them all in the Cardboard Canakit box that the RP-4 came in and make some vent holes for cooling.
Also, is there a way to remote the RP led that shows it is powered on and flickers green when activity is happening? The enclosure that came with the canakit does not allow that light to show through, but if there are pins on the RP4 that can remote that, then I can put that led somewhere that can be seen. I will research this separately on my own, but I thought someone here may have had the same issue and solved it.

There are lots of project boxes on Amazon in all kinds of sizes. You can likely find one that will contain all your devices. As for making the LEDs visible, search Amazon for “light pipe”. They come in various sizes and lengths and conduct light kinda like fiber optic cable.

Here’s a project I did using a light pipe.

This one will house a 2.5 inch SATA HDD/SSD

Yean I saw a bunch on Amazon. Looks like Bud industries has the best pricing and selection. I went to their site directly. Thanks for the light pipe recommendation. BTW your image is not visible on my computer, but that might be my issue, having internet problems with xfinity. Im going to switch to my 5G Hot Spot to see it that is where the problem is. I'll post a picture of my cardboard box solution when I get that sorted

I would suggest against a 2.5” spinning disk drive just to get it into a single housing as it’s just not worth the super slow drive.

If you put an ssd in there, then it’d be fine.

That looks good but price is a bit steep and overkill for what I am looking to do. Also wouldn't fit a potential Homerun device. Thanks for the link. BTW how do you post a link here? Do I need to achieve a certain level? Seems to strip out any links I put in the post

Looks functional. A couple of things to keep in mind:

  1. Heat. Those Pi’s can get hot. Heat buildup can cause system crashes and worse.

  2. Speaking of worse, cardboard burns really well. The good thing about project boxes, especially the UL listed variety, is they are designed to melt long before they flash over and burn (plastic ones)

@psperry
The raspberry pi has a heatsink and a fan. Doesn't even get warm on the outside of case and I can open the lid and hold my finger on the heatsink and it is warm but not hot. I was surprised. But your point is well taken. This is a temporary solution. @maddox Not a spinning drive, it is SSD.

Found two on Amazon I really like One is a retro Nintendo box with the SSD being mounted inside a cartridge. Not meant to easily pull out, but the retro look is really cool, but since it will be hidden away in the laundry room will not be appreciated as much as if it was somewhere more conspicuous. That one was $39. The other one was $26 and practical. That one was from Geekworm X825-C8
Thanks for all the replies, very helpful. @tmm1 the argon 40 was cool but only accepted an m2 type ssd, I have a 2.5" SSD.

Make sure you blow on the ssd before putting in otherwise it won’t load. :grin:

Fixed the issue with my internet. This is off-topic, but if anyone is having issues with the netgear Nighthawk router, Mine was R8000, the newest firmware causes constant DNS probe domain errors in browser where it doesn't load the page right away and you may have to hit reload a few times. Downgrading the firmware of the router fixed it, found that solution on the internet. I have the file if anyone needs it and can't find it to download. I am a very happy camper now, things back to normal.
