How do I access a recorded video so I can edit and share?

One of my friends has a son who was on the Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2025 show. I recorded his performance with the Channels software (performance was less than 5 minutes long but I recorded the entire show.) I would like to download this recording to my Mac and edit it (crop to just his performance) and share file with my friend.

I am able to download the entire recording to my iPad. I'm also able to download a m3u8 file to my Mac. But neither of these methods allows me to grab a file that I can edit and share. From what I've learned the m3u8 isn't actually a file although I've tried converting using VLC and had poor results.

I figured I could just log into my Synology NAS box and download the file directly but unfortunately I configured all of this 5 years ago and I can't remember my login info.

Anyone have an idea how I can do this. I am not a networking guru by any stretch of the imagination but can follow instructions pretty well.

What is the m3u8 url?

You should be able to download using something like http://x.x.x.x:8089/dvr/files/XXX/stream.mpg

I opened the m3u8 file into Word and the following is what I got.

#EXTM3U
#EXT-X-VERSION:3
#EXT-X-STREAM-INF:PROGRAM-ID=1,BANDWIDTH=10000000,CODECS="avc1.64002a,mp4a.40.2",RESOLUTION=1280x720
http://dvr-synologynas.local:8089/dvr/files/59/hls/stream.m3u8?abitrate=256&abr=false&achannels=6&acodec=aac&bitrate=9488&indexed=true&resolution=720&ssize=1&vcodec=h264

http://dvr-synologynas.local:8089/dvr/files/60/hls/master.m3u8?abr=false

when I type in either of the above addresses I still get the m3u8 file. I don't see one that has an address that ends with .mpg
