I have an HDHR connected to my LAN as well as a Synology DS220+. I started my channels subscription. I use an Amazon Fire Cube. I cannot find any app on the Fire Cube to access my subscription. What am I missing?
This is the app: https://www.amazon.com/Fancy-Bits-LLC-Channels-DVR/dp/B07GFQRV9N/ref=nodl_
You can send it to your cube via the link above
Why don't I see any streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Peacock, etc... in Sources in Basic Set up?
Channel Plus doesn't provide that
If you have subscriptions to them and the apps on your device you can create Streamlinks to them on the Channels DVR.
Because Channels is not ReelGood, JustWatch, Apple TV, or myriad other streaming aggregators.
I do have subscriptions. So I would do that from the Channels App that I use to watch Channels with, or are Streamlinks created on the Channels Server?
Does it take some time to configure, load guide data, etc? I am up and running, but I am not seeing much available?
Did you add your hdhomerun?
Yes. It is the one source that it recognizes. It has been saying "Guide data loading" for nearly a day now. Still nothing populated.
I guess this is my issue. "Could not connect to c655bf348730.u.channelsdvr.net. Check if the port is mapped."
How do I map it?
It help tremendously that I added my area code. SMH.
The last thing I think I need to do it set my port forwarding so I can access remotely. Where and how do I do this?
Check your router documentation or google your router and find out how to port forward. Each router is a bit different. Forward Port 8089 to the local IP of your DVR Server. make sure remote access is checked on the DVR web page.
I recommend you switch the Port Forwarding option to manual
and the troubleshooting article linked from that
Did you mention you are using t-mobile 5G home internet? This creates a problem for remote. I think the going fix is to use tailscale or a different provider
Correct. I am actually trying Tmobile 5g home. This is how I set up my LAN. I do still have Spectrum but was planning on cancelling that as they are now charging me $75/mo vs $50/mo for TMobile. Using a VPN is a work around.
- So do you recommend Tailscale over other VPNs?
- Are there any drawbacks to using a VPN?
- Is there a lot of reconfiguring to do on my network if I add a VPN?
- I have another router - Netgear
@tmm1 has previously recommended Tailscale for those using T-Mobile. I don’t know anything about it. It’s possible that it includes some features that work well with channels. Someone else will have to chime in on this.
