How do I go about doing this - if possible

Hi, new user to channels, so go easy on me.

I have setup Channels DVR to run on an older 2013 iMac running OS Catalina and it is all functioning fine. I have my recordings set to store on the iMac's 4TB internal drive and that is also working fine.

Now...I also have on my home network a Synology NAS DS920+ that holds all my movies and TV Series Shows.

When I go into the Channel settings on the iMac and look under "Local Content" and select either the Movie or TV Sources all I see is what is on the iMacs HDD.

Am I am able to get the Channels DVR to look at the NAS Storage and assign a path to my TV and Movies on the NAS, so I can also watch what is on the NAS as well as recorded content.

I know I can add a the Channels DVR package to the NAS, but when I want to watch something on the NAS, I have to change the Channels IP address to suit the NAS.

I guess I am thinking, does Channels work like PLEX in that regard or is that NOT the intent of Channels.

I like Channels so much more than PLEX, so really want to get this working right.

Maybe I am missing some simple setting, or as I said, that is not the intent of Channels.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I think you need to mount those NAS drives onto the mac, so they appear under Volumes and then you should be able to see and select them under Local Content.

Is that not how it works in Plex as well?

Hi, yes you are correct that is how it works in PLEX, and I have PLEX running on that machine as well. The NAS Server is mounted and showing in the finder side panel and I can access all TV shows and Movies on the NAS via that panel, so it must be mounted right ?

However, the NAS or volumes just do not show up when I go to import local content in Channels setup which is why I'm a little puzzled. I see the path on my iMac drives.

I would have thought when selecting + TV Sources, the pop up panel would show the NAS, but it is only showing internal drive.

Can you screenshot Finder.app after click CMD+SHIFT+G and entering /Volumes

It doesn't sound like you're looking in the right place. Mounted drives show up under /Volumes on macOS. Did you look there for your mounted share?

Ok, this is odd, as you can see in the screen shot the "HTSERVER" which is my NAS device shows up in the finder side panel however nothing shows up in Channels. So, I then went back into finder and selected HTSERVER, then selected TV SHOWS which is a folder on the NAS, then I went back into Channels and it is now there. It seems I have had to selectively go through and select the devices in the locations section to somehow make the computer aware they are there, if that makes sense.

Apologies for the slow reply, I was just trialing a few things.

The sidebar shows devices on your network. Clicking into the share actually mounts it, making it available on your file system.

Once it was mounted, then Channels can see it.

You’ll need to investigate how to auto Mount shares on macOS. If the computer reboots, the share won’t automatically Mount.

Thanks and noted.. I will look into your suggestion. This particular computer stays on 24/7 so should not happen often, but worth knowing for sure.
