I had hopes of retiring PLEX and just using Channels instead. I tried about a year ago and it seemed too labor intensive to get everything correct with the metadata.
Have there been improvements since then?
Mass improvements the developers have been working hard on making the experience of viewing media great. They recently added trailers to movies and many other improvements.

Yes, if you have passes that have the potential to record some of your imported movies.
Just point it at your movie and tv show libraries and let it scan in. There’s nothing to lose.
If you don’t get a lot of matches because your file names are different than we expected, please report it in here and we can try to improve the scanner.
If you have a large library, be sure to turn on Enhanced Browsing in the Channels app, as it’s a superior experience for larger libraries.
