How many UK users using Channels DVR?

Would be interesting to know how many UK users are using Channels DVR and on what Device?

What service were you using previously?

Thanks!

I’ve been using Channels DVR for over a year now and very happy with it. I have 3 HDHR dual tuners, so that covers multiple recordings and TVs pretty well for us.

I came from BT TV and Virgin Media previously and don’t miss it. 90% of what we watch is on Freeview, and the rest is on Netflix, Amazon etc.

Been using for a couple of months in uk, quad tuner

Still have sky, Netflix, Amazon, but trying alongside to see how I get on

Using on a couple of shields and Apple TV

Fergin

Using it for over a year. Quad tuner. Homebuilt PC running Debian. Clients are Apple TVs. Came from Sky Q.

Also in UK using with quad hdh, clients are 2 x shield, 1 x wetek play 2 and 1x ATV4k

Quad HDHomerun with two Apple TVs and a CentOS box for the DVR.

I was previously trying to use Plex and their DVR…just far too many issues, so gave up and found Channels

Two HDHomerun Connects, Four tuners overall, playing on Nvidia Shield and Amazon Fire TV stick.
DVR running on a QNAP TS-251+

I also tried Plex DVR, Emby DVR, HD Homerun DVR and none of them have the reliability and user-friendly UI that Channels does.

Incredible support from the Dev’s, open and honest. I’ve paid for the full price app on both Shield and Fire TV before they went free for DVR subscribers and have zero problems with it, it’s a well polished piece of software with no unnecessary bloat or nonsense.

If they one day release a full Android app like the one for iOS it’ll be an absolutely perfect set up!

Uk user (Northern Ireland). Been using for around a month and delighted. Dedicated Synology DS218+ with 2xWD Red 4TB, HDHomeRun Quattro (one now, may add second but at present see no need). Main clients are Apple TV (3 4K and 3 4) and iOS (4 in total).

Flawless. Only issue is the fact I can receive ROI DVB multiplex despite using an attic antenna and a very directional log-periodic with good “off beam” attenuation. Channels does not seem to support and allow selection of LCN (HDHomeRun and Plex also suffer this) so there ends up being issues when channel numbers are same e.g. BBC1 and RTE1 both reporting channel 1. I don’t need RTE as it is also on the NI DVB multiplex. I had to solve this by adding a low-pass filter for channel 38 blocking ROI multiplex around channel 50 - that worked.

No antenna connected to any TV in my house now. All live is via Channels or on occasion BBC iPlayer as it gives me “Watch from Start”. Also use ITV Player (subscription - no ads), don’t use 5 (ads - no sub available so Channels does all this now), Amazon Prime, Netflix and iTunes. Make extensive use of Apple TV app so all content (except Channels and Netflix) integrated in the app and “Up Next”

Previous Plex user - now discontinued as Channels is so good. The media library for my own transcoded DVD and music collection is now in Synology apps.

Some features I would l like to see:

  • iCloud sync of all settings between iOS and tvOS devices so changes on one are reflected on all
  • Integration within Apple TV app (also love to see this for Netflix and Synology Video)
  • External access without need for port forward (as on things like AVM Fritz, Synology, Plex etc) (at moment I just use VPN)
  • Voice commands via Siri would be handy.
  • Easy way to move forward and back days or time slots on guide from Apple remote much as web client can offer.

Overall - delighted! Worth every penny on hardware and subscription to date and I will be a long-term user and subscriber based on what I have sent.

Great post, very informative. Am considering setting up DVR solution similar to your own with HDHR Dual Tuner (for now). But I would want to use the 2RN epg data from the Clermont Carn transmitter. The RTÉ channels on the NI Minimux are only SD and in addition are often geo-blocked, this rules them out for my household. It appears that the dual epg info causes issues, just as it does on Plex. Do you know, or anyone else on here, know of any way to have the channels from both platforms together on the same server.
