How secure is out of home access really

I am not a fan of leaving any ports open through my firewall. So I have been using a vpn to enable and disable port forwarding when i use channels remotely. How secure is it really if I were to leave it forwarded?

how is any one supposed to answer the vague question " how secure is it really"?

if you're not a fan of opening ports, then dont. closed ports would "really" be more secure than open ports.

I guess I am asking how risky is it to leave that one port open (it's the only one I leave open), has anyone in this community experienced any problems?

ive had countless of ports open for over 20 years for various services from gaming, plex, backups, vpn's, etc. and I never have experienced any problems.

I am personally not worried. I open ports as needed for multiple things which I would consider less secure than Channels DVR. But like multiple threads here have mentioned you can take extra "feel good" precautions. Like use a VPN or use a different external port etc. I assume if someone has had a bad experience with this they would have already reported it here and to the developers who would have addressed it and notified all of us. I have not heard anything from the developers that there is a issue to be concerned about.

I've never had any problems and I'm not worried about it. The developers seem on top of the ball enough to use good security practices and are active and respond quickly to issues.

I do have it running on a dedicated box that only runs Channels DVR & Plex, so there's not much damage someone could do even if they completely took it over aside from messing up my recordings.
