Will it work with a sony bravia smart tv that is equiped with android tv?

There are two pieces of software involved here. The Channels app that runs on your Android TV and the DVR software (Channels Plus) that runs on something else (see link above). The DVR software cannot run on an Android TV.

That is incorrect. The DVR server can run on Android TV devices. Several users are successfully running the DVR on Sony TVs, TiVo Stream 4K, as well as Fire TV Cube devices. (Although, the FTV Cube makes a poor DVR server because it is limited to FAT32 filesystems, which means only 30-45 minutes of OTA recording per program/movie.)

Already answered, here and on discord. You need to read and not just post.

While I'm a user, I disagree. Step by step means a person that has absolutely zero knowledge could do the task. This is far from step by step. I've always felt one of the things holding Channels back was good, detailed instructions.
Many years ago Microsoft discovered the same thing. They moved from having the geeks do their manuals to having English majors do all the writing. The change was significant.

Install the "Channels DVR Server" app, and run it. It should then direct you to open a particular address in your computer's web browser to complete the installation. Have you installed the app and run it yet?

Can I open the addres on my mobile phone?

Yes. It's just a web page.

Yes it will work on a Sony Bravia that is Android as it is wireless..
Your TV needs to be setup on your home network.

Brief Installation Instructions
Go to Google play store and download the Channels App
Decide where you will store your recordings such as a directory on your computer like c:\DVR
Download the Channels DVR app from GetChannels.com
Install that on your computer with networking turned on to get Channels
Decide where you will get your programming such an antenna which will require a tuner such as HomeRun Flex and scan for channels.
If you want more than locals you will need a provider that supports TVR Everywhere
If you get this far and still have trouble post again

Hi rccameron I see you withdrew your last post.
The first line of the Channels DVR setup is
"Channels DVR Server runs on your computer or NAS device at home."
You have to install the install the appropriate software.
Also, I believe the Computer/Server should always be on to work properly.

The laptop presents an interesting situation and does not seem a good solution

Channels Minimum Requirements

  • HDHomeRun network TV tuner
  • 1GHz CPU (64-bit Intel, or 32-bit/64-bit ARM)
  • 512MB RAM
  • Large HDD for storing recordings
  • HDTV is on average ~8GB per hour

The OP wasn't specific, but the instructions you are providing are for running the DVR on a computer/NAS. It is my understanding that the OP wants to run the DVR server on an Android TV device, not a NAS or computer. If that is indeed the case, then your directions are incorrect and not relevant to this discussion.

(I withdrew my post because the OP was not specific, and could be interpreted as wanting to do as you describe; therefore I chose to let it stand. And while that may be what is posted on Channels' website, the DVR server can be run on Android TV devices as I explained in an earlier post.)

I suppose this thread is diverging, and only the OP can answer. So, @Javi10_mobilegamepla, what was the purpose of your post:

  1. To access an existing Channels DVR server instance with an Android TV client; or,
  2. To run a Channels DVR instance on an Android TV device?

Your post was vague, and your responses to answers were equally unclear. Perhaps you could actually state in clear language what goal you are trying to achieve, and which devices you are using to reach that goal.

(Because without direction and details, everything is a guess.)

Hi racameron I was not being cute or snarky in my reply. Regardless of the OP, you claim that Channels DVR can be run on an Android TV. I am looking for some education in this matter as I don't see how it is possible. I don't know of any Android TV on which you can install the Channels DVR software. Do you know of such a TV because that would be of great interest. However, if however you do not want the DVR function and only want to use a single device for TV, then you can install the Channels Android App from the Google Play store for a cost of $25 and watch a single channel TV over your home network. However, back to the OP. He is asking about setting up a DVR server and that is the info I was trying to provide. I am not trying to argue with you but in the spirit of cooperation as Channels is a learning experience which with the great Channel Skipping I have come to love.

As to Javi, I think he is a little confused. Multiple questions to answer.

Many users have/do successfully run the DVR software on Android TV/Fire TV devices, as I previously stated. Such devices include:

  • Nvidia Shield
  • TiVo Stream 4K
  • Sony Bravia TVs
  • Amazon Fire TV Cube

All above devices have been reported by users to successfully run the DVR software. In fact, such software can be found both in the Google Play Store, as well as the Amazon App Store.

The $25 paid app in various app stores is to access HDHomeRun tuners without a DVR.

Your posts show you don't quite have a complete grasp on the ecosystem that Channels serves, and also that you don't research your posts. As a fellow user (and not a developer) I ask that you please ensure the veracity of your posts in the future, to cut down on the confusion.

Hey guys. If anyone is still looking for a answer to this question. If it's possible to setup the Channels Server on a Android TV ....
Well I just recently discovered the Channels Whole Home DVR. And I just love it! So at first I setup the server on my home PC running on Windows 10. And I had bought a Internal HDD with 4TB. But I didn't install it internally, but rather through a powered USB cable. And it was working great!
But as I was using it with the apps to watch TV and recordings. I noticed that in the app installed directly on my Hisense Android TV, in the settings there is the option to download the beta app (allows for the accessibility setting). And another option to install the server!
Now this install the server option wasn't available in the Android app I was running on my Stream+ DVR box. That's also Android, but has no option to install the server. But the Android app on the Hisense TV direct, does have it.
So today I figured I'd give it a try. Cause if I could set it up on my TV. It would save me from involving the PC at all.
So first I connected the internal HDD to the TV USB port. And then installed the server. then I opened a web browser on my phone to access the settings. And set it up.
At first I was having trouble selecting the HDD as the DVR storage location. Cause I kept getting a error that permission isn't granted. So I tried formatting the drive as a internal storage device, (instead of as removable storage). But for some reason it was now showing as only 1.8tb avail. So like half only.
So I removed it. Reconnected it to my PC. Formatted it. It was now showing again the correct 3.8Tb avail. So I then reconnected it to my TV, left it as removable storage, it was showing the correct 3.8TB. and this time it did allow me to select it as the DVR storage location.
And the rest of the setup was a breeze.
So I now have the server running only on my Android TV. And it's using my 4Tb HDD for storage.
I couldn't be happier with it.

This Channels DVR really nailed it! It's hands down THE best DVR I've tried.

And yes it IS possible to run the server on some Android TV's. If you see the option in the app settings to install the server. Then you can do it. It works great for me.

I hope this helps someone
