How to watch via browser on local computer

I see this question has been asked many times but it keeps coming up . I have the dvr installed on a linux virtual machine. It is working great via an hdhomerun and appletv. However, I cant figure out how to play content on any pc on the local network. (iMac and Windows laptop )

I see people are asked to access it via its ip address e.g 10.10.30.87:8089. ( my dvr is at 10.10.30.87).

However, this takes me to the settings page . I am redirected to http://10.10.30.87:8089/admin/settings. Sure, I can access live tv and the library from here, but not the experience I was expecting. I'd rather just see the guide and library. I am sure I am missing something. Wil appreciate some help to clarify this.

The devs have always stated that web UI is meant for DVR admin purposes only.
It's not meant to be a Channels client like an Apple TV or Android TV.
I've never seen where they even entertained that idea or even a Windows client.

You could bookmark sections in your browser.
ON NOW http://10.10.30.87:8089/admin/guide/now
GUIDE http://10.10.30.87:8089/admin/guide/grid
ON LATER http://10.10.30.87:8089/admin/guide/later
etc.

By that I assume you already figured out how to play them in the browser?
Click an item, then either Watch Now or the Play button.

For what it's worth, an iMac (with the M1 chip) can run the Channels app for iPad, and it's a pretty great experience.

Just mentioning this if your iMac is one of the new ones.

good to know! unfortunately mine is a bit older.

Yes, I figured that out. But I was hoping for a different experience - its feels weird to have to land on a settings page before heading over to the grid or recorded items section.

Did you see my first reply to you?

Interesting.
