I got FIBER! (Off topic, I'm just bragging)

Yo, guess what? My tiny little town finally got fiber internet!

Let me tell you about my internet history. First, there was no internet. Then I started hotspotting my phone to my router. After that, I had Dish internet, which was the worst thing ever. Then I switched to a WISP provider, which gave me 25mbps for $100 a month. And now, finally, I have FIBER! I get 300mbps for $60 a month!

My internet is 12 times faster and $40 cheaper per month. This has nothing to do with CDVR, I just wanted to brag because I'm so happy.

I never got Starlink because I have a big oak tree in the way where it needs to be pointed. I didn't want to put up a tower or cut down three trees.

I am SOOOOOOOO happy!

do you live out in some remote rural area? I didn't know fast internet was so hard to come by for anyone in the USA... at least not for the majority of people in metropolitan areas. At least 300 beats 25, for sure. Congrats. What about cable? I get pretty good speeds with cable. Its the only service I subscribe to from Comcast, since I do TV with antennas.
300mbps is my upstream. Downstream is much faster.
This is with a coax line for Comcast cable internet, which I pay $89/month for.

I am happy for you Jay. A lot of rural areas don't have cable in the US. Or they might have cable but comcast in certain areas hit you with a data cap which is 1.2 tb after that I think its $10 per 50gb. Or pay an extra 30 for unlimited. It shouldn't even be a thing. I live in Northern Illinois and our area is finally getting fiber and there are tons of lines being run in the country too. It is nice to see for those just outside the city limits.

I live in Levy County, Florida. It's a small farming town. My neighborhood had no phone lines, no cable, no DSL, and no cell signal. To get a cell signal, I had to get a Wi-Boost.

Unfortunately, a large part of the USA has no ISP because it's not profitable to build the infrastructure. The only reason we finally got internet is due to COVID-19. The government gave out grants to get internet in rural areas.

It was funny; during COVID-19, they would park a school bus with two satellite dishes in our neighborhood every day with free Wi-Fi so kids could do virtual school while shut down.

I watched Planet Earth II in 4K. It's AWESOME!

Edit: New ISP prices
$50 - 100 Mbps
$65 - 300 Mbps
$80 - 1000 Mbps
$100 - 2000 Mbps

You still don't have as much fiber as a single bowl of Super Colon Blow!

I have had a Local ISP since 2015. USI Fiber (US Internet)
They started out offering 1gig symmetrical Fiber at $60 a month, but they have had to raise their prices the last couple years, first to $70 2yrs ago, then to $75 a few months ago.
(what hasn't gone up in price these days)

They also used to offer several speed plans, i think 100megs was like $20.
But they discontinued those plans at some point, and now only offer 500megs for $65, and higher than 1gig, up to 10gig, but my apartment complex is only wired for 1gig service.
